Heh...now all I gotta do is bully the cause of the whole POCKET universe onto the board, and I suspect that won't be too difficult.
And call me strange, but you using the word "cute" in a sentence strikes me as...odd. And I would never intentionally cause cavities, knowing now just HOW much damage they can do (not firsthand experience, thankfully!)
And regarding the twitchiness, I really think you should cut down on the coffee...despite the fact that you've made it clear that you wouldn't react that differently from Prisca.
How can the characters be so cute? They're only a few lines, but they're cute. It's not anime-type cuteness; it's cute cuteness, the kind Avalon has.
Actually, it's not just the characters. The name is kinda cute too... makes me think of very small cute comics that you can carry around with you. Or kangaroos. Or something. Whatever it is, it's cute.
Cute! Cute! Cute!
Yeah, flying seals tend to be cute.
And what does POCKET stand for? Well, that's covered in strip 4 or therabouts, but truth be told, I DID make most of those words up. (Temporashifting?) I didn't even think about the cute aspect before, but now that you mention it...that could be good for my site. I'm trying for a general audiences release here (not in the sense of Disney's recent kiddie-movie trend, but more like Prince of Egypt and Chicken Run).
And, regarding the few-lines style...I blame/credit that to Photoshop. I still haven't gotten the hang of drawing with the mouse without taking a lot of time. I draw a lot better than this. Seriously! (Note to self: Use scanner in student center!) And since I have to work on this daily, I often sacrifice art quality for script -- assuming, of course, that the script is good. I'm not a fair judge!
And for more cuteness, I suggest Acid Reflux ( www.acidrefluxcomic.com ) if you haven't seen it before. It's the story of God and her pet universe, Irving. (And I know the ultra-conservatives would take offense, but the key is not to take it [the comic] seriously. It's too cute!)

Ah. Rather thought POCKET meant- well- a space-time "pocket". Hard to get into but also hard to get out of. Doesn't necessarily make much sense as an analogy now I think on it, but it made sense when I thought that was what I thought it meant. Hrm.
Very much enjoying the comic so far, by the way. Confused though! It seemed as though Calli met Prisca for the first time in the first episode (10/2), but that either isn't so or Calli has - ways - of finding out things. However, mysteries are interesting, and I look forward to finding out the answer in the comic. Just wondering if there was something obvious I was missing
-Eric Schissel (apologies for going OT by the way- perhaps I should edit this post and start another thread, now I think on it...)

Actually, they DID meet for the first time in the first strip. However, there are two ways this can be looked at:
a) Calli made an educated guess that since Prisca was from Earth, had no previous knowledge of Calli or time-space phenomenae, and completely flipped out when she saw a flying seal, that she had never been in a POCKET before. I'd say more, but it might spoil the story.
b) In the sister story to POCKET, Calli also had what one of my friends refers to as "limited ESP". Partly from tinkering with time-space for several years, partly innate. As above, I'd say more but it might be a big spoiler for later events.
Regarding the OT-ness: that's OK, I know where this thought tangent came from. If I can trace it back, it's OK. I'll step in if things get *too* crazy, though.

I'm going to have to find out one of these days how chronos and kairos differ; I only even know the latter word because of my musical interests (it's the name of a set of pieces of music, meant to be played as a set, written in the late 1950s-early 1960s by a major Danish composer (Vagn Holmboe, 1909-96)) while chronos is rather better-known, but all I know is the time-connections of each word...
Other interesting points there, then... and thanks for the clarifications!
(Though I do detect some - possible - spoilers in your response- a smart-mouthed computer? Or have we already seen that, and I just missed it, or rather, what it was? There have been a number of details whose significance I've failed to register. Well, that's what rereading is for... )
-Eric Schissel

As to the clarification, actually was wondering about that very point, thanks.
I look forward to finding out how and why Calli
(1) knew there would be no coffee on this world (or, if not knew, guessed to good probability)
(2) was more frightened of Prisca than of the many dangers she's faced in her lifetime to date...
Again- not asking for spoilers. Just that when I see something quizzical, I start forming guesses if I think I know enough to guess, and whether or not I do know enough to guess, I certainly start looking forward to being able to piece together more of the puzzle. A very small part of the enjoyment of serial plot (serial novels, netfiction (the Superguy list for example), webcomics, ...- an attempt to fit some of these, those that aren't pure joke-a-day, into a broader category) for me as I may have explained elsewhere, but certainly a part. Sorry to ramble!
-Eric Schissel
As a more general remark: I notice a lot of people are calling POCKET "cute". Well, I have nothing against that, but I should point out that some very un-cute things are going to happen in the course of the story. After all, war and hate figure into the storyline, and wherever you find those, you find pain and suffering...
(On the other hand, I will handle such scenes with as much care and dignity as I can. You don't have to use graphic violence or foul language (in most cases -- Schindler's List is an exception I can think of off the bat) to convey the horrors of hate.
There's going to be some pretty weighty material later on in POCKET -- this is what happens when an English major decides to create a webcomic, I suppose. And although it doesn't look like it now, it's aimed at a cerebral audience.)

It's the artwork that's cute - we'd talk about the story, but it takes more than a few weeks to have much to talk about. Presumably in a few months the pages-long wholly speculative character analyses will start.
Un-cute heavy material with suffering is good, and oddly rare. (It can't be that incompatible with the medium, so why does nobody do it? Is it just the cultural convention of serial art = not serious?) I don't think a cerebral audience will be too hard to find; Bruno seems to have one.

She mentioned a sister story, not strip, which sounds quite different to me. Though... I for one would not at all mind if, after (to avoid spoilers) the run of POCKET (which, it sounds like, has been intended from the start to be delimited, though not very very brief,) the author were willing to post that sister story somewhere. Her call, though, as with anyone who creates- her call, not the fans'. My opinion only.
-Eric Schissel
[This message has been edited by schissel (edited 10-25-2000).]
-_-& <--closest thing I can make to an anime sweatdrop...
Agh...
Okay...looks like I gotta set the record straight:
It's not a sister comic, it's a sister story. And while POCKET is based off of it (to a limited degree), it is a self-contained story. Any information that is needed from that story will be provided within the comic (flashbacks and the like).
And I don't think I'd post the story...in addition to requiring another 2 years or so to get it "polished", I'd have to go and change various names to protect the innocent.
