Das Engelandlied

Postby Shadowfax272 on Wed Nov 05, 2008 11:36 pm

I am referring, of course, to the ending theme of OVA 3.

I've recently come into possession of quite a large collection of German military music of WWII, and have about three versions of Das Engelandlied, along with a Finnish version, which surprised me. It's very nice, but I'm not sure what the lyrics are saying. I don't think it's the same song.

The tracks are the full version of the song, which include about 3 verses compared to the ending theme's one. The song is also alternatively called 'Wir fahren gegen Engeland' (we fly against England). If anyone wants, I'm happy to put them up on Ripway or the like. 8-) Alternatively, talk to me on MSN (shadowfax272 [at] hotmail [dot] com) and I'll get you sorted.

Full lyrics to Das Engelandlied

Code: Select all
1. Heute wollen wir ein Liedlein singen,
Trinken wollen wir den kühlen Wein
Und die Gläser sollen dazu klingen,
Denn es muß, es muß geschieden sein.
Refrain:
Gib' mir deine Hand, deine weiße Hand,
Leb' wohl, mein Schatz, leb' wohl mein Schatz,
Leb' wohl, lebe wohl
Denn wir fahren, denn wir fahren,
Denn wir fahren gegen Engeland, Engeland.

Refrain:
Jetzt auf! In Bergen und Klüften
Tobt morgen der freudige Krieg!

Das Wild in Fluren und Triften,
Der Aar in Wolken und Lüften
Ist unser, und unser der Sieg!

I really like that song. However, I can't translate it good enough, seeing as it's my first year learning German. -sigh-
Finally, I remember to do a signature! Oh the wonder! Oh the happiness! ... I don't even have a snappy remark to make.

D: I am in DESPAIR! The lack of a snappy remark for my signature has left me in despair!

Ooh I got it!
[about a scene in "Isn't that a bit Dangerous, Jeeves?"]"He looks nothing like Jesus. Jesus had a beard."

I've been taking german for a couple of years now, so let me take a stab at it.

Today, we'll sing a little song.
We'll drink the cool wine.
And the glasses will clink,
then we must be seperated.
Refrain;
Give me your hand, your white hand
live well, my love, live well my love live well, live well.
For we go(travel/sail/fly), then we go,
then we go against England, England!

Our flag and the blowing winds on the mast
they proclaim what makes our kingdom!
For nor longer are we going to suffer
that the englishman laughs at us!
Refrain

When the news comes that I am fallen,
That I sleep in the ocean's tides,
Don't cry for me my love, and think:
for the fatherland he has shed his blood!

Darn, I just realized I spent five minutes translating shadowfax's sig. I knew it didn't flow right with the song...

Naw, my sig is the first two verses of Der gute Kamerade
Jetzt auf! In Bergen und Klüften
Tobt morgen der freudige Krieg!

Das Wild in Fluren und Triften,
Der Aar in Wolken und Lüften
Ist unser, und unser der Sieg!
