i don't know what the major is:the leader of an undead army, but how?
is he a vampire or a werewolf?
it doesn't seem so , but he doesnt grew old with time
he has no special power, is small, and doesn't know how to shoot, even with the best "specialdoc" weapons
so he could indeed be a kind of mary-sue, if i understood well

I've actually wondered about that myself often. And Frey: could you be so kind as to explain Chapter 83? or anyone else who understands it? I don't know if it's just me or what but I have no idea what to make of the stuff they're saying about Major.

The Major is human. The position that he lies in with blood rushing towards him is similiar to the one Alucard was in hundreds of years ago. Alucard chose to be a vampire and become immortal while the Major refused; wanting the keep his soul and humanity as his own. It is still unknown why the Major has not aged. Chapter 84 also reveals what makes Alucard his foe.

Have you ever seen a picture of Hirano? The major looks to me like a manga version of Hirano... only in German
Also the guy has an army at his disposition who would die if he gives the order, that is a like fangirl/boy wetdream.

A self insert character is not necessarily a Mary Sue. Most of the time it is, but not all of the time. A self insert alone does not qualify a character; there have to be other traits.

Most army commanders could give an order that would get their troops killed. A whole lot of them HAVE given such orders. It's not all that unbelievable. Besides, what makes you think they would die if he told them to? His troops thought they were literally immortal. That's how he was able to get so many agents in necessary places in the first place. His army thought it was going to be a completely one-sided slaughter against a bunch of weak humans, and afterwards they would get to enjoy eternity as No Life Kings. That seems a far cry to me away from being willing to die at his command.

Oh, of course. In case you haven’t noticed from my own posts I definitely enjoy making crazy theories But it's nowhere near as fun unless you can also have pointless debates about said theories.
Well, I think the perfect evidence of the Major as a Mary Sue is that both he and Hirano LOVE to send characters to their deaths. Hirano is the only artist I know of that enjoys killing his characters, even the good guys.

Again, just because a character is a self insert does not make them a Mary Sue. Besides, from what Erin said I doubt that the Major is a self insert anyway. The appearance is apparently pretty different, and your idea of "they like sending characters to their death" does not have much in the way of evidence. From as far as I've read in the manga (volume 7) the most important good guy to bite the big one thus far has been Pip, and while I like the guy he still takes a back seat to Seras, Integra, and Alucard. Sure, quite a few minor good guys have died and no shortage of civilians and villains have been killed, but that’s what civilians and villains do in highly violent stories such as Hellsing. They die by the truckload.
