And Shine TV Tropes Now Project

Post by Chaos Priest »

As was noted earlier, And Shine Heaven Now does not have a page up on TV Tropes. While it may not need one, I still think that it would be kinda nice for it to have one. I'm trying to figure out the editing there so I can put it up, but in the meantime, substance is needed. Fellow fans, your mission, should you accept it, is to figure out what tropes can be found in And Shine Heaven Now and post them in this thread. Good luck.

So anyway, I was just wondering, why is it that women can wear looser lower garments while men have to wear pants to be socially acceptable? When you think about it, we're the ones with the dangley bits, so we could use a bit more room down there, but we're expected to wear tight confining clothing around a very sensitive area. I'm not saying that women shouldn't be able to wear a skirt, I just wonder why men can't as well. Not that I would look very good in a skirt. Kinda freaky really, but robes might be nice. Actually, for that matter why are women expected to cover their nipples while men can have their's showing? Women actually have a reason to have their's out at times, but men have no reason whatsoever. I suppose it may just be that a man's nipples aren't considered sexy. I wouldn't be a very good judge of this though, so can somebody who's attracted to men weigh in on this? Thanks. Where was I? Oh yeah. Anyway, I'm not going to argue that bras are a bad idea, as they provide support, but why aren't men required to wear a modesty wrap up there? It's practically obscene, all those man-nipples. Not something I want to be exposed to, in any case. Maybe the next time I have to see some bid fat guy without a shirt on I could sue him for indecency or something. Take a stand, and all that, ya know? It would be kinda hard to win that one though. The courts would probably laugh their heads of at it and dismiss it immediately. Even assuming they did take it and it did become publicized so my cause became widely known I'm not sure I want my 15 minutes of fame about being the prudish man-nipple guy. That would be a sucky 15 minutes. I'd rather have that time for something awesome, like taking down a rampaging bear with a Styrofoam cup or something. That would be pretty awesome, don't you think? Wad that cup up real nice, and shove it down his throat and cause him to choke, killing the beast. I'd have to draw it out a bit though, like, knock it around for a while and get a few battle scars in the process, so it looks more manly. Maybe even get my shirt ripped off in the midst of the battle for a bit of fan service, while still retaining my modesty wrap, of course. Yeah, that would an awesome 15 minutes of fame. I might want to go and hit the gym actually. Don't want to look like a slob during my 15 minutes.

I think my tongue is digesting in my mouth...

Chrsitianity is Catholic - Averted.

BFG - Played straight.

Translation Convention - Averted.
Warren Ellis: I figure that the more of you there are around me, the more chance there is of the inevitable hail of bullets hitting you instead of me.

Dr. Kelso: In order to save us some time, I shall be calling all the males "Daves" and all the females "Debbies".
Debbie: Debbie is actually my name!
Dr. Kelso: Then in fairness to the others, you will be "Slagathor".

Translation Convention is a good one, although it's only occasionally averted (the current storyline is using English instead of Italian).

As for the other two, I was thinking it would probably be better to use tropes that appear only in Shine rather then redoing all the various Hellsing tropes. So while Our Vampires Are Different wouldn't be included, Body Swap would be.

Anyway, I'll try to think of how to phrase the main body of the article while I'm at work today. I'll probably have the last line be something like "In addition to many of the tropes found in Hellsing, And Shine Heaven Now also has examples of:" or something like that. Granted, not all of the tropes from Hellsing will apply, but most of them will. It just that stuff like Bleached Underpants won't. Not unless Erin has been keeping something from us. It would be kinda useful to know for certain though. Hmm...

No, no I don't think there's anyway I can ask to see Erin's underpants without getting slapped into next week. Oh well. :P

Erin's said eh doesn't draw hentai because it doesn't look good, so she has no sordid past in that respect.

...Whether she's written any naughty fanfiction is another matter...

Er... sorry 'bout that, folks. Anyway, here's kind of a proto-page idea for Shine. Any more tropes you can give or suggestions for improvement would be REALLY appreciated. I still have more I'm going to add on here, but for now anyway...

And Shine Heaven Now is a Hellsing fan comic created by Erin Ptah. A bit more humorous then its source material, Shine follows the Hellsing organization and others as they tackle problems such as parties, monster attacks, romance, pay checks, extremely aggravating fangirls, and those meddling kids.

Besides many of the tropes found in Hellsing, Shine also provides examples of

Dis Continuity (Played with, when the comic switches from anime continuity to manga continuity Incognito is informed that he no longer exists)
Filk Song (The HellSing segments)
Freaky Friday
Mary Sue (The character Marian Amethyst Raven Yumi Sappho Urania Elizabeth oddly enough is not a Mary Sue, she just lacks common sense)
Mega Crossover (Far too many crossovers and cameos to even begin mentioning) *note: if somebody here feels like trying to, feel free*
Shipping (Not only do the many fangirls have couples they ship, but while clinging to a host they can enforce them)
Time Travel
Translation Convention (Usually used, although notably averted when a character is speaking/thinking in French)

Alright, it may have taken far longer then it should have due to rampant procrastination and not being really sure about posting a page with so little on it, and it may not be much, but I went and added And Shine Heaven Now to the TV Tropes Wiki. I am absolutely lousy at describing things, so if any of you have any free time feel free to improve the page of the comic itself (linky) or its listing in the Notable Webcomics index (linky II: the sequel). Also feel free to go around and add Shine to any trope pages you feel appropriate.

Also, um, I don't suppose anybody here knows how to alter the index bar on the bottom of Shine's page so it's actually connected to the others, do you?

well i think since seeing the last strip we can add the "It's only a flesh wound" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... FleshWound) trope to the list.

Hmm... well personally I'm not sure quite yet if it's used straight or a subversion yet, as we haven't seen yet if Yumie actually is still capable of fighting. But hey, if you think it should go in there then go ahead and add it. It's a wiki, so anybody can edit it. Besides, I don't want the page to have nothing but my user-name name on the page history. That might look kinda bad, ya know?

To be perfectly honest I never edited one either until I made that. What you might want to do is look at these pages on there (as they're what helped me anyway).

Good Style - this one just basically goes over general writing tips. A lot of these tips can be applied to writing many other things besides wiki editing (although I admit that nothing there was all that new to me having heard it many times before, it's still worth a look).

Text Formatting Rules - this page has most of the little different rules on the code the wiki uses. For example, while putting something in italics here would look something like this:

Code: Select all

Look, ma! Bendy letters!
on TV Tropes it would be done like this:

Code: Select all

''Look, ma! Bendy letters!''
Wiki Sandbox - this page is specifically for practicing and trying editing. I posted the page for Shine here and spent time working the kinks out of it before I actually created the page.

And finally one thing I found to be very useful was a button labeled "view source" that's on the bottom left corner of each page. This lets you see what exactly is typed in to make a page look the way it does. As an example, pressing that button on Shine's page gives you this:

Code: Select all

Ba-bump

I think I should take this time to mention that a lot of expanding needs to be done on the official wiki page: http://cgwiki.comicgenesis.com/index.ph ... Heaven_Now
