the made a documentary of that and my highschool world history teacher made us watch it ........it was pretty cool and interesting. I liked it and it was a while ago that i watched it and i still remember some of the stuff that was in it.

It helps with my dad and I. it's funny we can diuscuss a book I'm reading , then I make a hidden trinity blood reference( there's this show that my friend watches I can't remember the name.......) then it moves to the illuminati, we go off into world history while my mom tries to jump into the conversation with th topic of curtians and all of this is at a booth in Denny's. I love sundays

but Gun Germs and Stell is a book! Do you remeber the author? It would prove to be a good read. I'm on the bus for almost anhour to get home from school then I have to take the bus to work and Mom channel surfs so fast Dad complains of migranes so I basically INHALE library books. I go every week or two. I went yesturday

So he finally did it. After months of hinting that he might run for president, Stephen Colbert announced his candidacy on Tuesday. Unfortunately for America, he is only actually registering in South Carolina.
As far as tactics are concerned, I recommend cheating.

I saw the episode where he was signing all the paper work. I'm Canadian so I can't vote down there so I shall amuse myself from the sidelines.

Here's a question though: Will he keep doing the show if he wins?

Even if he wins in South Carolina, he's unlikely to get either party's nomination, so there's no threat to the show.

Has anyone else read Colbert's book yet? It's like one very very long segment of the Word. The Word of God, that is.

i don't know that colbert, but if i understand he's a kind of comic who makes fun of the politician.
we had one like that in France (but really not so handsome  ) and he finally decided to present himself to the elections (to be president)
In France, you can't be a candidat unless at least 500 majors sign for you
when that comic got his 500 signatures from majors, the politics began to find the joke a bit bad.
he got pressures and death menaces
finally he died in a traffic accident
some people think he was killed

He's only running in one state, so he cannot possibly win.

Haven't seen it yet, but that sounds unbelievably awesome.

I think it would be amusing if Colbert fans united and got him the ignatures he needs to be on all 50 states. It wouldn't be that hard.

Apparently, though, he is getting in some trouble: the election rules people have issued a statement that unless he declares it all a joke, they may go after him for breaking election laws. Apparently it's illegal to run for president (even in one state) and have a TV show at the same time - they consider it using corporate money (from Comedy Central) to run an "ad" in the form of the show.

Proof the government has no sense of humor.

As much as I think it would be hilarious with a comedian in the executive office (anyone seen Man of the Year), I think us Colbert fans will not be seeing Steven signing bills and making state of the union addresses with a new word of the night.

Steven can't be comedian in the White House, any more than Regan could be an actor in government....wait a minute. :o

Not sure about a lack of sense of humor in government. Look at our president. He is comedy material! He was the best thing for comedians since Dan Quayle.

Not to mention how many senators and political leaders are staring on The Daily Show and Colbert Report. I wonder if our politicians are forming a social club on this.

Aww Poor Steven. Maybe it's for the best that he didn't make the ballot. But he looked soo sad though. D:

Oh, he did. It was adorable.

By the way -- I went to a TCR taping on Wednesday (Halloween!). Here's what I typed up about it:

Notes from a Dead Audience Memeber: A ColScare Report Taping ReporT

Complete with pictures, Q&As, bracelets, eye contact, and cheesy goodness.

Here's an interesting fact: turns out Stephen Colbert was on an episode of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (US version) during its first season in 1998. His first skit? Playing the part of a news caster. And, as expected, he went right into Colbert character mode - some 7 years before the Report and only after a year on the Daily Show. Colbert also did some of the other skits, like a rap song about skiing and the props game.

Erin should track this episode down (it may be on DVD, since the first season is being released) and see if she can get some useful audio from it! Might be useful to mix with the "Jon Stewart is God" video.

I have, in fact, seen both Whose Line episodes with Stephen in them :D I may even have them on my external hard drive.

I don't know what exactly you imagine me doing with the audio, though. What part of it seems Jon-Stewart-is-God-esque?

I make other sorts of TDS/TCR fanvids, but I've never felt that the Whose Line footage fit into them.

I don't know. I thought him dancing during the rap skit might be a funny addition during some kind of instrumental bridge. You might also be able to use a few of the words he used during the newscaster skit. Might be nice to include for completeness sake (i.e. "I'm so dedicated, I even have clips of him from 10 year old video!").

At the least, you could probably use it for a few animated LJ icons.

Er, I do have all the words already. And specifically related footage in all the bridges.

Trying to stuff every possible element of the fandom in one vid would leave it cluttered and overdone. There are other songs where an amusing dancing instrumental bridge would work. But this particular vid is finished ^_~

I know you finished a version.

But what about version 2? :D

Come on, you know you want to spend hours upon hours going through all the Colbert video you have a second time to do it all over again! (Or not.)

Idea for the Colbert dancing clip: Colbert doing DDR. Mix it with any other clips that show his feet and him moving strangely. Then, pit him against various anime characters.

I just saw the Colbert Day rerun. The one where he has a bet with Oshawa Ontario's mayor to make Colbert Day on his birthday. I remember being so excited then diappointed because I had to work that day. I would have gone, I live in Oshawa ( It's also know by the people who live there as " the dirty 'Shwa")

Let's hope for next year!
