James chuckled lightly at the mental image brough up of himself as a merchant.

Now there's and entertaining picture.

"Close, but not quite. When business is good, our ship does contract out to mercantile guilds. Occasionally, we even do a little merchanting of our own when we come into possession of sellable goods. But most of the time, we take care of Letters of marque and reprisal*. Privateer work, not the most glamourous, but you get to have fun."

James spoke plainly and openly of his privateer work, not ashamed or embarassed.

"What about yourself? What is it you do in life?"

*[OOC: Letters of marque and reprisal were how governments issued sanctioned work to privateers. Don't know how it's done in the HWverse, so I'll go with this for now and edit later if needed]

Keon listened to everyone intently, but kept quiet, walking with everyone as they entered. This was a really interesting group of people that had gathered, and he was curious. He didn't know what to think about Izis.

As he listened to James, he wondered how close Privateer work was to, say, a mercinary or guildsman. He didn't interupt Jenn's conversation, however.

---

The guards lining the entrance hall stood almost motionless, making one wonder if their were people in those suits of black armor. The same drawing force that appealed to everyone who recieved Yaldabaoth's letter seemed to almost unconsciously be drawing them to the nearest opened door, a big room in the center, the conference room. (A Map of Demiurge coming soon for reference.)

Jenn paused slightly at the question. Ever since she left home four years ago, she had done a lot of traveling. When she was hungry, or in need of a bed, she did whatever she could. Rarely, that meant slipping into someone's vegetable garden and taking a few for herself, or climbing a drainpipe to "borrow" an inn's empty room. Normally, though, she could get enough cash doing "odd jobs." The tasks she would take generally ranged from "find some artifact" to "help me get to that place" to "find out something about X plan" to even "that guy stole my stuff, get it back". How do I describe what I usually do, Jenn pondered. After a moment, she came to a decision. "I do some freelance adventure jobs," she said. "If someone needs information, a missing item, or knowledge of an area, I can get it. When I'm not doing that, I really love to travel."

She looked at James intently. "In all your privateering work, James, where haven't you visited?"

Millie looked at Izis awkwardly. "I'm, um... Millie," she finally said, not wanting to prolong the discomfort more. She didn't offer a bow or handshake. Izis didn't... she* might be offended if I did... Even after, Millie felt uncomfortable, still expecting a reaction from earlier. She started trying to shift her attention to the ceiling, her shoes, or the guard armor.

*Still meant as neuter, unless Izis' voice or appearance should seem masculine, in which case change to "he"

James noded as Jenn gave a description of what she did, then paused a moment, pondering her question, before smiling and pointing passed the gate.

"In there. Shall we go take a look?"

The thought had occurred to Jenn earlier, when she heard the previous mention of meeting Yaldabaoth. She didn't really want to interrupt her conversation with James for that, however. Nice while it lasted, but it's time to get this over with. "That sounds like a grand idea," she said, giving James a nod and a smile. She began to walk in the direction of the drawing force/Conference Room, waiting to walk beside James.

Millie continued toward the Conference Room. She decided to watch the Guard Armors they passed on the way. She wondered how someone would tolerate such heavy armor, then briefly wondered if anyone was even inside the armor, before deciding not to worry about it and just keep going.

Keon followed, pausing a moment to study the mural-like scenes on the walls. He stares for just a moment before joining the others.

Izis now walked at the back of the group, following everyone else

Undoubtedly, these people would lead it to its eventual goal: the end of the puzzle

The puzzle of course being putting the Map together with the Instructions and following them to this place

Izis was eager to see what rewards awaited at the end of it

The suggestions too were eger for him to get going, everything seemed to be pointing in 1 direction

Inside the conference call, there is a large rectangular long table, big enough to sit at least 20 people, the head of the table facing the far wall. The walls are adorned with maps of regions across the world. There is a small couch off to the side where a girl named Reza sits. To the left of the table, a blonde swordsman named Shin stands.

And in the back-middle of the room stands Yaldabaoth, wearing an old nobleman's outfit with a soft slight smile on his face.

"Welcome to Demiurge. Please, have a seat, everyone."

Millie's expression changed when she entered the Conference Room. She looked around, eyes finally stopping on Reza. She watched her with a curious expression, looking away after a brief moment, ... since staring is rude. She chose a seat at the table where she could look toward Reza. She looked around the rest of the room, but her considering look showed she was thinking about something other than the decor.

Jenn looked around the room as she entered. She first scanned the maps, stopping for a few seconds on each. Someone watching her might have noticed she stopped on one map of Lortia for a moment longer than the others. Then, after looking at Shin and Reza in turn, her eyes stopped on Yaldabaoth. She frowned very slightly. So this is the guy, huh. Either he doesn't care to flaunt his wealth or he doesn't care how he looks. Maybe he doesn't even get much money, though. I'll give him his chance. She moved to the head of the table, taking a seat on the right to keep Shin in sight, and sat, leaning on the table on one arm, waiting for Yaldabaoth to explain the summons.

Take a seat? What on earth could he mean by that?

Forunatly, Izis' initial alarm was answered by the others sitting down

It followed their example, and picked a random seat[/i]

As James walked through the Hall into the conference room, his eyes fist went to the maps, then to the people already in the room. He let his gaze linger on each of them for a few moments, trying to gain as much information from their stance and look, then returned his attention to the maps, remaining well aware of their presence.

I wonder if these are other summoned adventurers.

While looking at the map with genuine interests, memories of places visited coming to mind while looking at them, stired by Jenn's earlier inquiry, he slowy moved towards Reza, his interest both in the information she could offer, as much as herself.

Upon hearing the request for everyone to sit, James paused for a moment, then moved over to the table and stood besides a chair, waiting for the ranking lord to sit first as he was brought up to do.

Keon took a seat next to Millie, looking from Shin to Yaldabaoth to Reza.

Yaldabaoth had a stance of authority, but it was relaxed and not imposing, merely seeming to suggest confidence in the man. He seemed sincerly happy to see everyone gathered. His eyes caught Izis for a split second, but his short stare was hardly noticable, as if he was dismissing an insignificant thought in his mind.

Shin looked more on edge, as if waiting for an unseen danger, an ornate sheathed katana at his side.

Reza seemed completely relaxed, as if this was nothing new, but showed no warmth in her face.

Yaldabaoth nodded to James. "You honor me, sir, but in matters of such formaliy, if it suits your whims, you may reguard me as an equal in rank. My ways may seem odd in these times, but I am a man who's line of blood has been driven to the end. I stand before all of you as merely one with an offer to make, not as a nobleman or king."

Yaldabaoth smiled and took a seat at the head of the table. "Shin, Reza, won't you join us?" Both reluctantly took a seat, each across from each other. "This is Shin, my personal bodyguard, and Reza, my advisor. "

Shin nodded to those who had gathered. Reza's face remained unemotional as she spoke. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Yaldabaoth continued. "Now, if you would each introduce yourselves for the group, we shall discuss why I called you here, as well as the payment and benefits.

I'm sitting closest to Yaldabaoth, so I might as well go first. "Jenn," she said simply, giving a quick wave. She glanced down the table, waiting for the others to make their introductions.

Since she was on the opposite side of the table, Millie waited until the introductions made their way around the table to introduce herself.

Izis followed Jenn's example

"Izis"

It took the bag that the man in the river had been carrying out from under the robe as it spoke its name

"I found a man in a river with this, and followed the map"

Its clawed hands still didnt show as the robe's sleaves were too long for Izis, but it was still obvious that there was something wrong with them

Now I'll see if I solved the puzzle right

Izis was excited

James pulled his chair and sat as Yaldabaoth called to Shin and Reza to join them. Now that everyone was seated, James looked more attentively at the people around him. An interesting group, though without any common ties it seems. This could prove problematic, or to my advantage, he thought.

His mind returned to the matter at hand as the people around the table started introducing themselves. His attention remained on Izis for a moment, a look of appraisal on his face, like a merchant trying to determine the value of an odd item. His gaze didn't linger long however, as it was his turn to introduce himself.

Jenn raised an eyebrow at Izis, saying nothing. That's not exactly the type of thing I'd so quickly announce, she thought. And what's the deal with those hands, anyway?

Millie, on the other hand, tried not to look at Izis, particularly after explaining its map. Found a man and took his map? She* didn't seem like she'd be dangerous earlier, though... She tried to banish from her mind the murderous associations between Izis' words and its bloody robe. She did, however, make a mental note: When she is present, stay on guard.

When her turn came, Millie stood where she was and made a small bow. "My name is Millicent Firel... you can call me Millie," she said, making a nervous smile. For a moment, she looked as though she wanted to say something else but didn't know what. Finally she said, "Um, looking forward to travelling with you all," and sat down.

Keon noticed it was his turn. "My name is Keon Reminester, from Galrand." He had been looking at Izis with poorly hid shock from his/her introduction.

---

Yaldabaoth smiled. "It is indeed an honor to meet you all. As for you, Izis, you did well finding this place. You will be allowed to join the others."

Reza gave Yaldabaoth a surprised look, still wearing her cold expression.

Yaldabaoth's face turned serious. "Acidra is in a period of strife. As I'm sure you may know, I am no longer the real ruler of this land. Instead, Lord Burns of Zera controls the government from the Northern port town of Mondego. I would have no problem sitting back and allowing him to run things, but there are a great deal of problems in Acidra that have gone unsolved."

He paused for a second, looking at each person. "Beyond that, there are a goals of my own that I'd like to see to. For both these reasons, I'd like to hire a small group to act as adventurers, explorers, and, if it comes down to it, perhaps even warriors to check up on incidents in Acidra and beyond. "

Yaldabaoth's terms certainly were vague, but then he mentioned the pay. It was pretty damn outrageous, far more than a mercinary or fighter-for-hire could hope to normally make these days. (The actual amount will be worked out at a future time.) Perks included residency in the castle and access to Yaldabaoth's impressive personal library.

On Yaldabaoth's line to Izis, Jenn looked moderately surprised. She quickly regained her previous expression. Millie, in contrast, appeared completely startled. She blinked a few times, confused. A... a compliment? How could that be? If she*-- Millie blinked again before her expression turned slightly hopeful. She looked at Yaldabaoth again. Maybe... maybe I was wrong about what I thought... about her being dangerous...

Jenn didn't even bat an eye at the ludicrous pay offer. She maintained a steady gaze at Yaldabaoth, her expression near-unreadable, but with a hint of curiosity. She was planning to take the offer anyway, No doubt M.'ll join up for the huge library, the chance for travel sounds great, and a free bed would be nice, too, but her face noticably shifted toward suspicion. I might as well get what info I can.

Her tone was conversational and, given her expression, oddly non-threatening. "Wouldn't hurt to be specific, guv. First off, what exactly have you got planned for us?"

Millie's interest was clearly piqued by mention of the library. Maybe it has something on what that... Nephilim... is. She stared into space a moment, recalling the vision where she heard the name. Shortly she snapped back to reality, then sat quietly, watching Jenn as she asked her question.

* I dont think you need to keep specifying that Germ, for further reference Izis voice could be taken for either gender as well

Izis beamed at the compliment from the lord, although it didnt understand a lot of what the Lord had spoken of (Money in particular is not a concept Izis is aware of yet), it was obvious that the puzzle had been solved correctly, and whats more - there was a followup

At Jenn's enquirey as to what was next, Izis decided to ingnor the urge to speak, and simply listen for what was comming next

Yaldabaoth grinned. "Serval things, actually. There have been quite a few missing persons reports recently, especially from a certain city to the east. These must be seen to. I lack free personell to look into the matter.

In addition, an aquantence of mine is coming to Acidra, but she's not going to be able to come via the port town of Mondego like most do. I need a team to escort her. Beyond that, I may have the team do some recruiting work, perhaps in Laweht.

That should give you an idea of what sort of jobs I mean. They may require navigating dangerous areas or dealing with possible combat situations if someone like Burns tries to interfere."
