The place where no good punk-asses and aimless hipsters come to discuss a rather lousy comic.

Questions Thread

Post by Lydia »

I thought putting up a thread for random questions might be a good idea. They can be hypothetical, theoretical, or real questions directed at a particular poster or moderator.

Like my question:

I have a sig image that has some profanity in it. Well THE profanity, if you know what I mean. Can I still use it?

Pleeaaaaase?

I had a cunning linguist friend that concluded that all swear words had really lost their meaning and their umph because of things like cable and the internet. His conclusion was that the only swear word left was cu*t. Is that THE swear word that you're reffering to?

Edit: Not that I have any say in if you can use it or not, I'm just curious what "THE" swear word is and if it matches with my friend's conclusion.

It's not recommended, but we don't really mind here. If you post in the general Comic Genesis forum, someone may take issue with it. But if this is the only place you post, then it's not too big a deal. I guess we'd have to see the image. If it's not appropriate, then we'll just ask you to take it down.

I assume it's the word "fuck?"

Hahaha. Okay, yes it is fuck, but I stand corrected by orphevs or by his friend. Cunt is indeed THE swear word to end all swear words.

I just didn't want to get, like, banned or something for it, y'know? I don't post anywhere else in CG, so I expect it'll be alright. :)

Oh christ, that is awesome.

I'm reading that book right now and that's all I'm going to be able to think about now.

Oh man, between Jim's sig and Lydia's sig I could sit and stare at this thread for hours on end. First the first few hours I'd simply laugh my ass off. Then I'd stare blankly and drool on my self as I gaze in a trance at the awesomeness. Their combined power is so awesome it'll break my head if I'm not careful.

It's from a japanese kids show, originally, but the text was added by an unknown person and the image was given to me by a girlfriend.

Jim's is better than mine, it kills me everytime I look at it.

The show's called Lazy Town, and I think it's Dutch. They show it on Nick Jr. It freaks me the hell out, but the sig is cute.

Jim's is hilarious. Also, I never knew cunt was considered a swear. Bad word for sure, but never knew it was thrown in there with the swear words. 'course, I used to think crap was a swear word.

I think personally I put both cunt and crap up there with swears. Funny though, I've heard that originally cunt was a word that came up in a very odd way. I don't remember the details exactly, but it was supposed to be a term of empowerment among medieval women or something. I don't think that it originally refered to gentalia, actually. *shrug* *cue "the more you know" splash and music* Canada sucks.

I've always had the feeling that cunt isn't as commonly used as other curse words not because it's so horrible, but because folks just don't think to use it very often.

In any case, the whole notion of "swear words" is ridiculous anyway.
