Bill Murray birthday thread.
Definitely Caddyshack... someone screams "DOODY" and everybody clears the pool. Next scene the pool is emptied and Bill Murray is at the bottom of it, picks up the "Doody" and gives it a sniff then starts munching on it. Really funny movie!

My favorite Bill Murray hour and a half is Groundhog's day with Scrooged coming in a close second. Oh Jeese... this might have to become it's own thread! Any subject suggestions?

Broken Flowers was good, but I didn't think as good as most of his others. Man that guy has been in a ton of great movies. My top three Murphy moments (in no particular order, really) with snippets from each:
1) Coffee and Cigarettes: JZA, RZA, and Murray (RZA: Take a seat Bill Murray! That's a lot of coffe you're drinking there, Bill Murray!
Bill Murray: Could you guys keep it down, I'm trying to keep a low profile, you know what I mean?
RZA: For sure, Bill Murray! We won't let anyone know, Bill Murray!) <--- I'm sure I mangled that script pretty badly, but you know the scene I'm talking about
2) Caddyshack: Murray, clueless caddy (Murray: On your death bed, when you die, you will achieve complete enlightenment. So I got that going for me.)
3) Life Aquatic: Murray, someone on the phone (Murray: [rolling a j] Well what the hell am I going to do until then?) <-- this one mostly 'cause I was the only one that laughed at it in the theater I was in

Life aquatic is a mighty fine movie. I first watched it in my mate's "shed". It's not really a shed, more like a games room. It's got a pinball machine, projector and screen, a massive PA from one of the guys from Jethro Tull and it's great for band practises!

Duff... you are a funny dude... yes I do wish for an update. I was cursing you when I didn't see one so I came to the forum. You were redeemed by the Bill Murray thread name change
One of my favorite Bill Murray lines is from Ghost Busters when he says "Venkman: This city is about to face a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical?"
Venkman: Riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"
or then there's groundhog's day...
"I was in the Virgin Islands once. Met a girl. We ate lobster and drank pina-coladas. At sunset we made love like Sea Otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over and over and over?"
yeah... I cheated...

P.S.
yeah.. Coffee and Cigarettes is good... Tom Waits and Iggy Pop have a great scene in that, Meg and Jack White have a scene in that (though they are both terrible actors) and Steve Buscemi has a good scene too! Jim Jarmusch took a few years to put it together and it has alot of weird and awkward moments, I love it!

I'll have to check out Coffee and Cigarettes.
I thought that Broken Flowers was ok. The story never really grabbed me. It has its mpments, but the writer just needed to let loose a little bit. It's too controlled the characters never really break out from being mannequins. More Alice in Wonderland on LSD and less puritan sobriety.
A great line though: "I'm a stalker in a Taurus."
The Life Aquatic is very underrated, but I think a person has to have a certain type of humor to enjoy it. It has a cynical type of humor that is a great foil for the upbeat kind of whimsical settings. The only film that I can compare it to is Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. You have to kind of think that the Steve Zissou part was written specifically for Bill.
Lost in Translation is awesome. Sometimes I think I like it more for being a big shoegazing music video, but the the two actors nail their performances. Bill is a master of the self-deprecating cynical dofus, and this movie plays to all his strengths.

I'll go out and say that Wes Anderson's films probably have the best soundtracks ever. The Tennenbaum's scene with Elliot Smith's Needle In the Hay: Brilliant.
Also: If I hadn't seen Down by Law or Dead Man, I probably wouldn't have liked Coffee and Cigarettes/Broken Flowers as much. Had to get aquainted with Jim Jarmusch, so to speak.

I found this after posting.
Rza, Gza, and Bill Murray[/img]
I may have to do that. Of course I also might not have been paying full attention to the movie at the time either.

Heh heh. Awesome. I'll have to see that one.
Sorry. I've been sick again, but I'm better now, so I'm back to work.Giff wrote:Duff... you are a funny dude... yes I do wish for an update. I was cursing you when I didn't see one so I came to the forum. You were redeemed by the Bill Murray thread name change![]()
