... okaaay.....
(2) If you look at, you know, real manga, you'll see a variety of styles, some of which don't use toner or selective colour. Or enormous eyes. Or snout noses. Or whatever other conventions you might think of. Saying that you draw in "manga style" therefore becomes kind of stupid.

that one

Wow. I didn't know how much one sentence would tick people off...

As for saying 'a manga style' was simply categorizing it in a general way, not really making any statement... there are tons of manga styles out there... manga is more of a format as opposed to one unified style as you suggest I implied.
And since I was talking with evilchihuahua about coloring individual pages and pieces, by that reference I meant that most of it is not colored, but toned (I own quite a bit of 'real' imported manga and I have not come across one book in full color like in American comics). I never said anything about noses or eyes, etc. And by saying not 'American', again I was talking about spending time coloring each page, not meaning it in a derogatory way.
You really read way too much into that. ^^;

and if anyone can loan me enough time to slog through a backlog of 150 pages (covers included) without using the ubiquitous Photoshop 'painting' (I use watercolor markers and acrylic) I’m open to suggestions...

and for the concept of me simply plucking a 'style du jour' because it's popular; I’ve been drawing strange looking people since grade school (and am 3 years out of college), though back then they were called 'elf and fairy-like' as no one knew of manga or anime. So I didn't just decide on a style and start yesterday, it's been like that for quite a while and it isn't changing any time soon :)

I do what I do for fun because I like drawing and writing; seriously, I couldn't care less what you guys blow off about, I took worse in college, and if I can handle being treated as second class there, a few posts here are nothing. I have no illusions of grandeur or about being / not being published etc.
(I do 'publish' in chapters, btw, check the homepage :))

There are what, over 8600? comics through comicgenesis and with looking at the queue maybe 3000 of those update every day. I have no doubt that if you find my stuff that offensive you can't find something else to spend your valuable time looking at. ^__~

My only problem with manga is that, since Buddha invented it, everyone who draws it is going to Hell.

there's a problem with that line of thought, is that if you're only capable of drawing in that same, singular styling, with the overly large eyes and pointed facial features. (Mookie, who draws Dominic Deegan has a simular hallmark styling to yours, by the way)
if you're capable of drawing realistic faces and other 'pseudo-realistic' stylings like one sees in many american comics, then you'd be alright in using that reasoning that "it's your style".

as for Manga comics not using color, just remember it's cheaper to print in black & white than it is in color.

you should try to learn to evolve your style, and have more in your "artistic Arsenal" than you would have normally.

your wording makes it look like a poorly informed definition. saying "manga means no colour" has come up several times before and its just a ridiculous idea.

if you think about it, Claude, that must mean that "The Phantom" is manga. by his reasoning alone.

Wow, ok. You attention to detail is excellent, and I quite like your inking, but the anatomy is.. jarring, to say the least. I know it's fantasy and all, but even elves have skulls, and lungs and other organs in their torso. It's a thing you hear a lot, but life drawing really would help some of your anatomy issue- if there's no classes nearby, there's tons of models and such on devart, it would be cool to see you bring your style back to reality a little.

Agreed. Love your detail, anatomy is screwy. If not local classes or Deviant Art then sitting in a park or other public area and doing quick sketches of people being active is a pretty good, if creepy, way to learn.
