Paint Community - Round 1

This is where past, great threads in the history of our forum go.

I think you may have cut one of my lines somewhere Stinky? I was at 345 pixels, and all the lots are in sets of 5 or 10... I missed 5 pixels of Lot #9, but there were only four pixels to be had, so now I'm at 349 pixels.

*shrug* No biggie. Weird confusion. Here's the cleaned up image - see if it fits:

Thoughts and Ideas - Suggestions for Round 2, based on Round 1:

1) Black territory divider lines belong to nobody and should not be counted as your land, unless you happen to own the land immediately adjcent to either side of the line. If you buy land (for example, 5 pixels), you get 5 pixels of land, and make the black line start at pixel 6. That way changing ownership of land and defining your boundries is easier for everyone.

2) Museum donations should not give points. It favors those people who churn out cool things that they never really planned to make part of their land... alternatively, set a maximum number of points a person can ever be paid at the museum.

3) Quit with the outside influence unless it's agreed on. Don't get me wrong, I like the police and the hand of god, but police aren't interested in freak rainstorms, dragons, radioactive bats, flying robots, giant ebony towers, floating islands, etcetera...? :)

4) Structure the point scales better - For example, SpunkyNeko's cool ebony tower is at least as cool as Mort's robot, but Spunky got just over half the points Mort got. Mort's robot exists because of the animation I did - he got points for it, but I said the animation wasn't part of the update - it was just for fun, and didn't get points for it (this second one is not a complaint - just pointing out an inconsistency).

5) Limit what we can build.. somehow... creatively... so that things can really be bought and sold. Why buy stuff from someone else when you can just draw it for yourself? Maybe have people tell you in advance what the person buying the land is interested in doing with their spare time? Or watch as people develop and then suggest limits as they become logical.

Just thoughts and ideas Stinky - not trying to force you in any particular direction!

If you "visit" me, I will be sad, since I did quite specifically say that the missile thing was not part of my update, but you used it anyway.
I know it wasn't but I liked it anyway so I made it part of the lot's story. :(

S'cool man - I just have stuff I'd like to try to get done at the glacial pace I've set for that chunk of land. The plants grow every update, the grass greens up every update... stomping it down would make it all but impossible for me to tell my little story before all the land is sold in Round One! :(

Go stomp my other chunk of land. It's going to have something godawful happen to it, but not for a while yet.

stinkywigfiddle wrote:You don't have to do it again. The hand thing can just be for this update. You keep whatever your doing with your land now.
Besides, I did do it before I updated, and you saw it.

Yup, I did. I didn't notice you hadn't put it in the pictures tho, and pulled my "broken" version of my land from the main image so I could work on fixing it. Not a big deal - The hand is in there. And I have plans for it.

Last reply of the night - gah! It's midnight.

I'm buying the remaining land to the Right of Lot #5, making JTorch my direct neighbor on both sides. That should be 35 pixels - 7 points, leaving me with 4.

I guess that makes since.

When I originally made the museum I didn't think of people making stuff just to sell it to the museum. I thought it would be best if they sold stuff they had made for other reasons and then wanted to get rid of. But cool stuff deserves to be saved somewhere.
For the most part I pay within 1-10 points for museum stuff.

3) Quit with the outside influence unless it's agreed on. Don't get me wrong, I like the police and the hand of god, but police aren't interested in freak rainstorms, dragons, radioactive bats, flying robots, giant ebony towers, floating islands, etcetera...? :)

I thought it made things more interesting. And the hand of god was a fun way to stop you from going out of your territory, into something that isn't suppose to exist.

4) Structure the point scales better - For example, SpunkyNeko's cool ebony tower is at least as cool as Mort's robot, but Spunky got just over half the points Mort got. True, the points scales are mostly arbitrary. Who to say what is cool anyway? However, I think a real giant robot woud be much more complicated than a tower.

Personally, I'd like to not have any points at all. But I didn't think anyone else would like it that way as much.

I figured you would buy something someone else made because you like it, and to add more interaction, and to... help the economy.
(Although it was easier when there wasn't any interaction)

Kolter, with any jam I would ask for permission first. It wouldn't be fair. I know you didn't intend for the missle to be taken seriously, but I just thought it be fun. Add's character to it, and that's why I liked it.

As for the gold I don't care. I know why stinky gave me a little extra. But I am purchasing Rock's place for Misty it seems... Rock was giving it up before I asked so I inhereted it. I would consider it a deduction of the death taxes. So Stinky should take out 15 points or something for that.

And... "Stomp"? Stomp what? What stomping? I can't stomp land down. I just have an island with large support beam and flying buttresses.

I do not know how to resolve this really. I mean, I don't care for what points I have or what not, it's just meant to be fun, ya know? Don't beat yourself up, Stinky.

I think the museum is a good idea for storing stuff you made you liked and didn't want destroyed when you did something else. But that's not how it's being used.

I thought it made things more interesting. And the hand of god was a fun way to stop you from going out of your territory, into something that isn't suppose to exist.

It was supposed to do that? You may not care for my update then. Would you feel better if I told you that I wasn't planning on succeeding in tunneling through the land, or keeping the land above the black line?

True, the points scales are mostly arbitrary. Who to say what is cool anyway? However, I think a real giant robot woud be much more complicated than a tower.

You don't want to get in the habit of paying people for building things that would be hard in real life to build - my antigravity platform for that one tree alone would be harder than a giant robot to build. :D

You could just give a random number of points - between 2-10 for example. That way people build because they want to build, not because they're shooting for those extra points. Since the points are arbitrary but based on your definition of what's cool now, making them wholly arbitrary really isn't that big a leap, and would rid you of the pressure of having to examine each update for changes and then decide what a person has earned.

Mort - why do you get the impression I was talking about you in particular? I used you as an example only because you were recent. For example, the very first update Stinky gave someone a point for a single turtle. Can you imagine that happening now? My point is not that Mort is an evil bastard or that Stinky is a preferential treatment giving ho, but that an arbitrary system of handing out points based on one person's definition of what is cool runs into trouble in the long run and that a better system could be developed that's more even-keeled and saves Stinky from this kind of headache.

Wait a second, shouldn't I have eight points now? I'd changed it to zero after I bought the land between Rock and I, and forgot to change it to 4 after I got my next points.

Anyway, a sinkhole has appeared beneath the house, which has of course collapsed. Big green dude has jumped in after it, and now lives in the cave. Big bat's still flying around outside, and the tree has finally started to grow larger. Also, there are some happy little clouds in the sky.

I do not have that impression at all. Kolter, you were NOT in chat last night, therefore you missed a part of conversation that was there about this issue. I was referring to what I talked to Stinky about last night before I posted this. We were talking in the main chat about alternative ways for "points" or not using points at all.

Which is what we were talking about last night briefly in chat. You weren't there, so I can see why you think (that I think that) I am being talked about here.

My suggestion meerly was a reward of new land instead of points but there would be a complication that arises after a while with that the land disappears. Of course, I think Stinky's only other problem is putting the world map together easily and cleanly.

Ok, I've thought about the point situation and it seems to me that the only time I went crazy with giving points was for Mort. Before that it has been mostly fair, I think.
(I was actually trying to be a little more generous with the points than I was when we started)

Since only one person has said anything about it, the points system will remain mostly the same. Except that I will only give 1-10 points for an update. No more.

And the museum will be donations only from now on. I may also request items I like from people.

How does that sound to everyone?

Dear Diary:

It's been almost a week, and the house appears to have finished growing, and I have a lovely loft above the kitchen. The vine I planted beside the house has grown even farther, and has started entwining itself with the balcony of my house. I think the roots may have extended down almost to the subteranean rooms. I'm starting to worry a bit. The biochem students were rather anxious to get rid of it...

The nice lady from up the way, Nanda, I think it was, adopted the purple baby dragon. I hope it's doing well. The green one has since wandered off, but the blue one has claimed the party room I made out of the cave, and is rather entranced with the television. It's going to rot its brains out.

Ah well - until next time,
Jessie
