I don't like America, Israel, Republicans, Islamic fundamental extremists, bible thumpers, Greenpeace, "free" trade, big business, wiggers, Britney Spears and the 8 year olds that dress skanky like her, Scientology, braindead babyblasting sluts that use the words "my baby's daddy", pro-lifers, abortionists, vegetarians, hunters, rainbow-farters, homophobes, commercialism, the justice system, political correctness, bureaucracy, the Western nations in general, white people in general, furries who use "furry words", Scott Kurtz, people who make obvious spelling errors, anyone who disagrees with me, and everyone on the planet including me.

I am, however, pro-Canada and pro-free speech.

I remember Kisai mentioning something about how Canadians like to say that they have freedom of speech, but in actuality there is no constituional law in Canada that provides freedom of speech. The government simply doesn't get as anal about it as other countries, but as far as I was told, in Canada you do not have a right to free speech on a purely technical level.

Our charter of rights has Free Speech in it, but up here we have something called "the Notwithstanding clause" which allows governments in some cases to make laws that are against the charter. Basically they can overide it in extreme circumstances.

It's rarely (basically never) used though...and it's actually a good thing. Having a bill or charter of rights that can't be over-ridden sounds like a great thing, but in practice it causes a lot of problems and you get situations like the US not being able to craft any decent gun control policy because the bill or rights garauntees guns for all, or any depraved ridiculous thing you can think of being justified in a name of self-expression or the pursuit of happiness.

While you could twist it to mean that Canada doesn't have true freedom of speech, what it really means is that our actual elected officials are the ultimate power in Canada, not an un-democratically appointed Supreme Court.
