Okay, maybe not the cannonball part, but I always asked for a big bucket of Lego for special occasions, hoping that one day, I would amass a big enough collection of bricks to make a fortress. Sadly, it never happened...

But I did make some neat forts out of tables, chairs, pillows, etc. You know, the best part is making them; I never really spent time in my fortresses - I just built them.

Okay, maybe not the cannonball part, but I always asked for a big bucket of Lego for special occasions, hoping that one day, I would amass a big enough collection of bricks to make a fortress. Sadly, it never happened...

Wow... I had no idea so many other people did that.
Our forts took over the entire basement when we built them out of couches - one actually collapsed on top of us because the cat decided to try and walk on the blanket-roof.

My best fort ever, though, was when I was like seven and had a bunk bed without a bottom bunk. We'd shove stuff up against it (dollhouse, chairs, large Fisher Price kitchen thing. The stove was the door.

Best. Childhood. EVAR.

we used to make awesome fortresses when I was a kid.
not just regular fortresses.
HEATED fortresses.
yes, HEATED fortresses.
you don't know what a luxury this was in an Oswego county winter. it may have been sub-zero outside, but we had a chair-blanket-furnace grate-Shangri-la.
course my parents objected to us covering the furnace grated with heavy blankets and thereby wasting heat, but oh the memories...

I had functional forts.

Growing up as the youngest of three boys, my natural instincts for survival were honed to a razor sharpness even at a young age. especially when one of our favorite games was "Build Giant Forts In The Basement Turn Off The Lights And Throw Anything Within Grasp At Each Other Including But Not Limited To Shoes, Legos, Action Figures And Video Cassettes".

Awesome name, huh.

Well, me and my sister built fortresses out of furniture too. We grew up in a really big house, and there was always some room that nobody was using and always full of spare old furniture, well, a lot of building material.

You know what I hate about GD? It takes so much time and effort to say anything there. I can fire off one-word responses here on Off-Topic Junk, or say something completely random in order to derail a thread, whereas in GD, I have to make a concentrated effort to contribute something meaningful to a discussion.

Or, at least, I feel like I have to.
