If you look closely, it seems McDuffies had ALREADY been shot when he jumped. By some twist of luck and fate he got hit by a second bullet, I'm calling this the "magic bullet" for right now. I believe that there was in fact 2 shooters, one of which may have been cleverly hidden by a grassy knoll to the left of the panel (out of view).
