Totally different vibe than with the owl.

"Yeah, that's the bridge pier (expletive). I thought it was the center. Oh (expletive)." ~ From the transcript of the recording device on board the ship which struck the San Franciso Bay Bridge last year, causing a 50,000 gallon oil spill.

So what other totally screwed up town names are there in Canadia?
Okotoks, Olds, Moose Factory (where they make the mooses), Dildo, Medicine Hat, Wetaskawin, Lloydminster, Barnwell
Moose Factory was once Fort St. Louis. Imagine if the Cookout were there. BRRR! I didn't find anything about making moose there (probably a secret). Without Law and Order and Jonathan Cheechoo, no one would know anything about this place.

Florida and the Southeast have screwed up town names, too:
FL: Ochopee (OUCH!), Christmas, Lake June in Winter, Howey-in-the-Hills (ALWAYS on TV), Two Egg, Yankeetown (in DIXIE County), Perry, Wetumpka, Micanopy.
GA: Ty Ty, Cumming, Jesup, Midway (to what?)
SC: Kingstree, Barnwell, Ninety Six
NC: There was an offensive one (to Italians anyway) in the western mountains that I don't remember (EDIT: It was Cullowhee). And Statesville, too.
VA: So many in Western VA that it isn't funny. Fancy Gap comes to mind.
WV: Nitro, Hurricane (hurricanes in WV?), Mingo Junction
KY: Hazard, Sturgis (no motorcycle races here)
TN: Chattanooga
MS: Biloxi is weird to me.
AL: Nothing comes to mind.
LA: Pumpkin Center, Part of St. Martin, Iowa, Sulphur Springs (yuck!)
(eastern) TX: Hitchcock, Orange (Oranges in Texas?)
AR is southeast, too, but I haven't been there. Same for the Boot Heel of MO (AKA Kolterland).

...doesn't Canada also have Swastika, Hearts Content, Moosomin (and Moosonee, but that's on the page), and, of course, Alert? It once had Snowdrift, too, but that was changed.

Moosomin- have embarrassing antler marks? Try MOOSOMIN! It'll remove those pesky antler marks fast!

The rest of the US has weird names, too.

I got a shotglass from Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Other fun names from the same state include Blue Ball, and Bird-In-Hand.

Isn't there a Hell, Michigan?

My dad and I ran across this one when my brother had his oath ceremony:

Not funny, or anything, but I thought it was interesting.

Um Iowa isn't an odd name for a city. The city itself though is a crap hole.

But we also have Iota
Butte Le Rose
Baton Rouge ...red stick...seriously wtf (I know WHY it's called that I was forced to take an awful lot of Louisiana history you know)

We have a city named Robert....really...Robert...like a person or something
not to mention the plethora of Native America named cities we have....or the French...or the Spanish...

and as I always wrap up a Louisiana related post

NEVER COME HERE

Texas has quite a few weird ones. But of course I can't remember them now that we're talking about it. The famous ones that I can remember are: Sugarland, Killgore, Loving... I can't remember the rest.

Killgore was really famous during the election with Al Gore. Every one in Texas at some time or other heard the dumb joke, "What's George Bush's favorite town in Texas?" (pause for the pun) "KILLGORE!" Then the guy that told the joke would laugh a lot while every one else chuckled at him for being retarted.
I'm glad 90's style forum signatures don't exist anymore.

Indeed, for I shall now wear this getup even in the heat of summer.

As far as I know, most of the weird names around here are taken from native words. Nothing too clever like "Hell, Michigan" or whatever. The only place I can think of right now is Honolulu Creek. Not particularly weird, but the name's still rather nifty.
