We're flooded. I don't mean just outside. I mean inside too. 6 inches just inside alone in our apt. first floor and rising. Flooding in both buildings. Cars in back are up to windows. Our are in front thank God on a little island.
Edit:
Called insurance. Applied for FEMA. Water is starting to go down, slowly. Pretty much whatever was on the first floor is a lost. Police are watching and patroling our complex. 10 block radius is flooded from what I hear. You are lucky to get out of the complex. Advising those who can, to stay.
More as we find out more.

in the last month both my mother and amanda's mother were diagnosed with breast cancer, my mom is in the middle of chemo and her mom has surgery later this month and probably radiation or chemo after. Being so far away from them right now really sucks.

I symphatize. Both my grandmom (mom's side) and one of my aunt's has had breast cancer, and my mom is right in the middle of chemo for ovarian cancer .
Geez, what happened to all the good feelings?

Just as an update - the water is gone, it left behind a nice coating of "mud" - more of a slime that is mud and sewage and whatever else was in the water. But fortunately mostly just mud.
We cleaned up some. We've most likely lost the bed and the couch, and also we just found out, the $200 kick-ass folding crib for the baby.
Got to hear from insurance first. See what happens.
Crossfire: "Thank you! That explains it very nicely, and in a language that someone other than a physicist can understand..."
Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

Oma Oma's been around for ever. Woman was told decades ago to cut the wine, good food and fun if she had any hope of surviving. She told the doctor to shove it, and now she's 98. And she's just been admitted into hospital. Bladder-infection-turned-septicemia. Woman's pulled through everything life's thrown at her, but apparently her pulse has gone real weak and they don't know if she's gonna make it through this one. She can't walk any more, needs help to use the bathroom, is nearly blind and deaf. Really... if she passed quietly it would be best for her. But of course I'm a selfish dick and I don't want her to. She's going to go the same way Opa Opa did 12 years ago. And I don't want the first time I've seen her in 3 years to be in her fucking coffin.

I understand what you're going through. Watching a parent go through chemo can be very rough, especially if you only see them sporadically and get the changes thrust upon you instead of eased through it day by day. Really, watching any loved one have to go through such a difficult experience is a test of character that can truly define just what kind of a person you are. My prayers are with you, your mother, and your grandmother. Losing someone to cancer is a thousand times rougher than watching them fight it.
I'm going to stop. Too many memories of my own dad.
