Jasmine winced and waved away the egg, eyeing Rychon for a moment before deciding to start with something she knew.
"The bracelets. Care to explain? And truthfully." She resisted adding an 'if you can', but barely.
If I told you I was innocent, would you believe me?

"The bracelet? I thought it was rather simple...ah well, I suppose there is something to it," Said Rychon, taking the slice for herself. She cut a new slice and began, a hint of granduer in her voice and a gleam in her eye. "You may remember the original tale of Nivali's death. Tarnovas, once he killed the Lord and took the throne, ordered that all members of the royal family--all possible heirs--be killed, captured first if possible and killed on site if not. Well! According to history as we know it, Nivali was the last. She was able to outwit and outrun all Tarnovas's guards. But then Tarnovas sent his right hand man after her. The man had travelled with Tarnovas for many years and been his personal guard through many trials, and so it was that Nivali met her match, barely escaping with her life. Weary and injured, she turned to you of course, Madame Pennaeho. Do you remember what happened then?"

Jasmine hesitated for a moment, her eyes unfocused as she remembered.
"But she went... I was only... that doesn't tell me anything about how you ended up with it!" Jasmine changed tack halfway through her sentence, wary of a con - it was Rychon, after all.

((this post be from Moses since he cant get his acount workin. *coughfergothispasswordcough*
so, yah, enjoy...))

(a little while ago(the previous night) and elsewhere)

As Moses an the thirty odd travelers walked the last mile through the dark, forest road, he kept his bow drawn in case it was needed. The trees formed a shadowy tunnel through the forest. The fae guards that had been sent to pursue them could be lurking anywhere in there, watching, waiting to strike. The pretty blue haired girl, whose name he had found out was Ariel, whom he had helped rescue from the castle, was walking beside him. Moses looked over at her and saw she was trembling. he gave her a reassuring look an a wink, causing her to blush. He looked ahead an saw moonlight where the tunnel of forest ended. If there was going to be an attack, it was going to be now. right on cue, a flash of ten foot flames seared across the road, nearly blinding him for he had his night vision on, and around the travelers in a ring, barring their escape. Twelve fae guards appeared out of the forest, six in front an six behind, further cutting off any chance of a retreat. Not that he was planning one. The flames eased back to about a foot high and, momentarily closing his eyes, switched back to his regular vision. Ariel clutched his arm an made no other sings of fear but for an almost inaudible whimper. "no worries babe, I’ll get us through this. Easy as pie says I." she gave him a weak smile.

The one that seemed the leader spit at Moses. "Pathetic filthy human scum. Did you really think you could escape?"

"Well, except the pathetic filthy scum part, that was the idea."

"meh, take no prisoners. Leave no one alive."
The fae equivalent of a lieutenant let his men carry out his orders while he awaited the carnage of bloodshed.

"oh, I don’t think so bitches."

an the fight began. the former prisoners who had grabbed various weapons from the castle formed a protective ring around those who couldn’t fight. the fae guards drew their swords an charged. a few strums of his bow string an the first went down with an arrow in his lung, heart, an forehead. It seemed fae armor was no match for his arrows, added to his knack fer finding weak spots. Several screams of agony came from behind as the ignited blade of a fae guard cut into the defenders. he spared a glance to see how the fight at the rear was faring. not good. the guards were out numbered, but with their armor an superior skill, it wouldn’t be long before they broke through an slaughtered the defenseless. all he needed was a clear shot, but even with his foresight people kept getting in his line of fire. turning back to his side, he had just time to register that two charging guards had sped up an gotten close enough to swing down their swords. he drew his short sword just in time to block the attacks at his head. Two quick upward strikes through the two guards’ chins from a fellow defender’s knives an they were dead. he barely ducked a surprise slash from the forth guard an lost a few hairs. the fighters on his flank came forward with a surprise of their own. a war hammer to the head and a battle axe to the gut took him down before he knew what hit him. he turned around, temporarily leaving the defenders on his side to deal with the fifth guard. The sixth being the commander, whose temper was growing shorter with every death of a guard . The defenders, fueled by revenge for losing one of their comrades, had managed to take out the fire fae, but that still left five. now all of the non fighters were crowded in the center of the ring, blocking his view completely. Time to put his foresight to the test. He couldnt shoot through, so he’d have ta shoot up in a high ark, an let gravity do its thing. ‘Concentrate’, he thought. In his mind he could see the ark. High through the upper most branches. Then down to where the guards would be, he hoped. Even a slight miscalculation an he would over shoot, or worse, strike down his own. “Got it!” thirty seconds an thirty shots later the five remaining guards were peppered with arrows, allowing the inexperienced fighters to finish the job. The last guard on his side had also been taken care of. now for the leader. he sensed the temperature drop several degrees. he looked to the commander. the air around him was shimmering with ice crystals and the ground was covered in frost. apparently this one was an ice elemental giving a new meaning to the term ‘cold fury’. “Leave here. Try anything an it will only lead to yer own death.” said Moses. The enraged fae formed an ice spear from mid air “DIE!!” an threw it straight at Moses. he took aim an fired three arrows, hitting the spears point dead center, stopping it mid flight an shattering it. five more found their way into each arm an each leg of the fae guard, with one left for the finishing head shot, sticking him to the tree behind.
a great cheer rose up from the victors. Ariel glomped him from behind. He turned around an her lips found his.
i hav gone to find myself. if i get back before i return, let me know.

"Ah, you don't see it, Madame Pennaeho? Well, I guess you'll just have to bear with me...," Rychon trailed off as she ate her slice of egg. While she chewed, she ran a finger along the tip of the knife. "She arrived--limping--at your doorstep." Rychon held her hand palm down as a drop of blood fell to the floor. "Bleeding...at your doorstep. What did you, Madame Pennaeho, do for your closest friend? You turned her away. Turned her back to those eager to execute her. And Nivali, who had never left the castle alone, ran to the darkest parts of the city. For months she ran, never looking back. And then Tarnovas's man came for her again, and she ran to the outskirts, then to the woods. And it was there he caught her, and, according to record, where she died.

"You wonder what that has to do with anything? Well! That very day, a human child wandered into those woods. She came across Nivali and Tarnovas's man as Nivali dealt the fatal blow. He fled, hoping to survive and knowing she would not. For good measure, he fired a bolt at her, but failed to see it miss. It flew past...and hit the girl. Nivali went to her side, promised her that everything would be alright, and she would be back, to take revenge on those who'd done this. The child clutched at Nivali's wrist, the bracelet fell, and Nivali, unable to notice any longer, turned away.

"Who could resist such a lovely trinket?" Chuckled Rychon, turning the bracelet in the light, as she let a single drop of blood fall on it. The drop disappeared into the metal. The spot glowed with a strange blue light. "Just gorgeous...."

"I... I was too young - my uncle - oh, with the excuses!" Jasmine growled and pushed the heels of her palms into her eyes. "I can't... I can't forgive so much of what I've done, and I can't forget a second of it all. I don't know what to do..." She looked over at Rychon as she removed her hands, narrowing her eyes.
"And of course Nivali had time to tell that girl her life story before she left... nice cloak." Her eyes wandered aimlessly for a minute before snapping back to Rychons', waiting for an explanation that she doubted would explain much.

"Oh! Of course!" Laughed Rychon openly. She waved the knife in the air, brushing away such a notion before cutting another slice and continuing, laughter lingering in her voice. "Well, I certainly didn't die that day, but the girl did. But since we're thinking third-person, I'll say Rychon, who had watched from a safe distance, took the bracelet. She followed the dying Faery, obviously. It got me this, didn't it? That's a thing that a con learns early if she's to succeed: when you strike gold, keep digging. Rychon was eager to talk business and knew there was little hope for Nivali. But as she did, Rychon slid the bracelet on, and it glowed an eerie blue. Nivali turned, a knowing smile on her face.

"I won't yet tell you what became of either at that time, but that is how the two met. They spoke for a time, but Nivali was never terribly fond of humans, you know. Anyway, that is how I came to have this, how the deal was made.

"Ah!" Rychon sat up suddenly and looked Jasmine in the eye. "There's something important: you'd like to know what deal that would be, wouldn't you? What any of Nivali's death has to do with anything now? Hahaha.... Well! The fact of that matter is this: she came back...because of you."
I'm bored.

Brodi found his room and gathered up what he wanted and changed his clothes to something more younger looking made the old clothes disappear and headed down to the kitchen... "I dont even want to see what the kitchen looks like, do I?" He said aloud to himself as he opened the door to the kitchen.

"You're lying!" Jasmine shot up, her right hand in a fist, her left seeking support from the bed post. "She never liked me anyway... always thought she was too good for a half-breed. What game are you trying to play, Rychon?"

"HA!" Rychon sat back and chuckled a while. Then she reached for the last slice of egg. "You flatter yourself, Pennaeho. Nivali has no interest in helping your little resistance. But--ah, nevermind it. Word flies fast in such turbulent winds; you'll hear of it soon enough." Rychon finished her slice and balanced the end of the knife on her fingertip, not far from where she pierced it earlier. "You ask such poor questions, Jasmine. For now, there are more troubles than what games I play or what deals I make. The point you want is this: Nivali has returned to her kingdom, and she will take it by any means necessary. So all this--" Rychon flipped the knife so that the handle fell into one hand as the other swept grandly to the view from the window. The citizens of the Underground had woken and gone about their daily lives, a peaceful hustle and bustle with a nervous edge. "--This...won't be part of the equation. If the Underground plans to take the city and the land and the throne that is rightfully Nivali's, well, they'd best forget it.

"And you," Rychon continued as she planted her elbow on the table beside her and leaned her head against it. "Aren't to be part of the equation either. Nivali still hates you for casting her out. She blames you for her troubles, her supposed death. Yet she is willing to offer you what you failed to offer her: your safety. So get out while you can."

Rychon slid her dagger into its sheath and put it away, then stood and headed for the door.
I'm bored.

"No." Jasmine glared at Rychon's back, forcing herself not to grow fangs large than her normal ones, or summon any fire. Magic of any sort would not help the situation at all. "Monarchy is corrupt. The people always suffer when whoever holds power decides that they can do anything. Nivali saw enough suffering in her life; we all have. Why would she want to make more?" Stopping herself from continuing on that train, Jasmine lowered her voice, shifting her shoulder as it pulled at a long-forgotten scar. Fast healing had always come with a price. "I don't care what she's thinking, but if she thinks she can shame me into leaving just when we've almost accomplished our own liberty; our freedom... she can think again. If staying means dying, by the hand of Nivali if she decided to 'grace me'" her mouth twisted around the words and she fought the urge to spit, continuing her sentence. "With her presence, or at the hands of some soldier who doesn't even know my name, then that's fine. I will happily die if it makes at least one person feel better about their own selfishness. I've had enough of mine."

Rychon turned her head back as she listened nonchalantly, hand resting on the doorknob. When Jasmine finished, Rychon bowed slowly, eyes closed solemnly. She rose, looking somewhat disappointed. "And so you would have the Counsil rule? In any case, Nivali will know...and she will be the one to do it." She lay her hand on the doorknob and turned slightly toward it. "She wouldn't have simply cast you into exile, you know. You'd have enjoyed a position of fairly high power. She trusts you with that much, if not her life. Are we done here, Madame Pennaeho?"
I'm bored.

"The Council would dissolve within months of them coming into power, and Relchenor doesn't want that power. But he's fair-minded, and would appoint a council of people who would do well, until the people decided who they wanted to rule them." Jasmine retorted after dipping her head in acknowledgement of the bow, almost subconsiously. "I don't want anything from her, certainly not to be spoon-fed orders like a puppet. I won't dance on anyone's strings, certainly not Nivali's." She paused for a moment, discarding all other thoughts and questions she wanted to express. "We are done."

The door caught Queequeg in the nose, and he jumped back with an alarmed leap into the air. There was stethascope dangling from his head; he hadn't forgotten the Crazy-Knife-Woman's discussion with the Elf about assassinating Jasmine, even though by now he'd figured out that their conflict wasn't quite like that. Seeing she was looking at him, he hid the large mallet, which he'd been waiting with until she came out, behind his back and whistled nonchalantly.
"Remember men, we are fighting for this woman's honor, which is probably more than she ever did!"

Rychon nearly jumped when she saw the mute, but forced herself to be calm. She leaned against the doorway. The dagger was back in her hand, as if she had been holding it the entire time. "You. What do you want? Ah, don't answer, it doesn't matter." Rychon pushed past him, stroking the blunt side of her dagger and chuckling as she went. "Whoever takes the throne, I'll be sure to have them find you a special place in the castle. One suitably humiliating...like janitor for some washroom. But we'll just have to see if you survive long enough to be able to enjoy your lovely career."

As she said this Rychon turned to go, but paused, a sly grin on her face. She turned back to the Mute, winked, and bowed grandly. In the blink of an eye the dagger was gone from her hand and at the mute's feet. Then she headed down the stairs, hands in her pockets as she whistled a light-hearted tune.
I'm bored.

After returning her bow with wild, exaggerated grace, Queequeg looked down at his feet in surprise. He glanced in confusion between Crazy-Knife-Woman and the dagger, then picked it up and held it out to her retreating back as if to retuirn it. But she was already out of sight. Puzzled, he slipped it into his coat. Then, suddenly remembering Jasmine, he dashed back into the room and swiftly patted her down from her ankles to her head until he was satisfied that she'd ont been attacked or harmed during the meeting.

He stood there a moment afterward, looking at her and rolling back over the words that had passed between her and the ambiuous knife-person. Talk of sacrifice, betrayal, and fighting for freedom had been a surprise to him. Once again, the overall scale of things had been much more than he'd previously believed. He stared at her now with some expectancy.

"What am I supposed to do now? I still have a damned hangover." Jasmine ran her hand through her hair, scowling as it tangled hopelessly. She was still disgrunted from her 'talk' with Rychon, and the shakedown had not helped her general mood, as her dislike for touching people was generally quite strong.
To make matters worse, the smell of waffles from down the stairs, while it would have usually made her hungry, today made her already queasy stomach feel quite rebellious.
She suddenly craved a triple-decker fried egg, chili and chutney sandwich, but she wasn't quite sure why.
