((Again, I start here for the sake of having somewhere to go from...feel free, mods, to make any changes needed.))

((Ack, argle pop. Posted this before I went through and read the posts about new threads and all that fun stuff. Looking forward to fabulous plans from Kat and Voyd, please don't eat me! Consider this a tentative post continuing what was going on simply because I was excited to see the forums back in some form....yeah....Luv you all.))

First light woke Emory according to habit. He made no sound, but his expression spoke volumes as he discovered his muscles had each and every one stiffened from the effects of spending all hours slumped against the door. Vowing to actually make it to bed come night, he rose gingerly, and removing his ward from the door with a series of casual gestures, padded down the hall to find the tile-floored room Rychon had discovered. A damp-haired but more cheerful figure emerged a short time later. “That’s better,” he mused. “More presentable now, and no lingering scent of chamomile for overcurious guardians to notice.” That still left him on his own, an uninvited guest in the manor of a dangerously influential fae family with superbly tangled undercurrents, but he had come to the conclusion that this was precisely where he was meant to be.

Cultivating an air of friendly unimportance, he made his way by less-traveled passages down to the undercroft, where he ingratiated himself into the good humor of some of the early-rising servants, carefully chosen, who came to know him as the lower lackey of an inoffensive fae house. Here his easy manner and clever tongue served him well. Even more important, though, was knowing what to listen for. As the late habits of the masters of the manor rang true with some of Emory’s more disquieting insights and suspicions of the developing pattern of power in the city, he came away thoughtful, but of course letting no sign of this belie his cheerfulness. He set off to find Rychon, glad enough that no one had challenged him since last night’s spate of magic. If his luck held, he would even be able to put what he had learned to good use. Still, there was no need to underestimate the opposition. Coming round the corner then, in one of the side halls of the far wing, it was understandable then that he nearly jumped out of his skin but hurriedly prepared himself to escape the worst when he found himself face to face with a huge, black, malevolent, sharp-toothed dragon squarely in the middle of the corridor.

“Right,” he muttered, “They sprang for a fire-breather. Just what I needed after breakfast.”

((Sorry about the oh so long post. Yesh, yesh, the dragon is meant to be Heglin, Kell, just to make things exciting ^^ I'm just going to post here until I hear otherwise from someone.))

“Wait a minute,” some rationality cut through the initial panic in Emory’s mind with two realizations. Emory’s thoughts were flying again, but at least now they were governed by something more than adrenaline. He closed his eyes hard for a bare second, and then looked at the black beast again, which had, fortunately for him, not seized that opportunity to turn him into so much charcoal. Now, despite the too dazzling, dust flecked sunlight streaming in through a low window he could see that the dragon was actually much smaller than the first impression had made it to be. The second note of interest was that the tinge of magic surrounding what he now understood to be a summoned creature, by the nature of that magic, was faintly familiar. ((No pun intended ^^)) Emory decided that he’d better take action before the still fairly alarming dragon attacked. “And if it doesn’t decide I’m worth gnawing to bits, it may very well be reporting back to its summoner, and I really can’t have that,” he thought.

In his mind’s eye Emory caught hold of several threads. This working would be fairly potent, but at least it was quiet, arcane-wise. Watching the dragon, he began to chant in a lilting, sing-song voice. His tone was soothing, almost sleepy. That tone was reflected in the feeling of the power that rose, subtly, about the two figures.

"And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions
And for a hundred visions and revisions..."

The chant’s effect intended effect was two fold. From the very start, though it was a strain to keep up, Emory was relieved to feel the passing of his time slow, so that though his voice rolled peacefully into the corridor, and it would have seemed that his spell would have been interrupted long before it could take effect by any number of events, it actually took place in instants to him, while the slow drifting dust motes in the air seemed to freeze, and he had all the time he needed to interpret the dragon’s movement and react while the second part of the chant could come into play.

"The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep."

He could only hope that the sleepy confusion inherent in the chant would work on the dragon the same way it worked on fae, and prevent it from telling its summoner too much about him.

The dragon made a hissing noice, which intended to be a chuckle, he slowly walked over to this weird man, trying to make itself seem like it wasn't going to attack, it made a clucking noice and stared at him for a bit as he sat a few feet away from him.
"So, your this Emory I prisume?" Helgin said to the man through his mind, using Xsans thoughts to find this out.
"You should learn more about dragons before trying to put one to sleep." It said bluntly.

“Do you have a more effective method to suggest?” he quipped. The dragon seemed more amused than anything by his actions. He let his spell slip away. (Though not beyond his reach.) The time change was going to catch up with him later, so it was best not to use it any longer than was absolutely needed. Emory nodded respectfully. As far as he knew, there were only four people in the manor who could call him by name. “Nothing personal.” Emory smiled. “I simply couldn’t afford to take chances. Sometime later, if you like, I’ll try to make up for any strange opinion you might have of me.” By this time, he had relaxed into his usual bearing. He looked over the dragon with a certain measure of interest, but not all of it was idle curiosity. “Correct me if I’m wrong, you seem to be on patrol. Mind if I ask why?”

Another chuckle came from the dragon.
"No, I'm not patroling, its just interesting to see what the humans have been doing now adays." He looked around with intrest at all the portrates and such that decorated the stuff.
"Seems this one has alot of items, to bad, from what I heard hes an ass, but thats only ones opinion. And think nothing of it, you dont need to make up for what you did, I should be used to it." Helgin stretched, his scales making clinking noise.
"Thats my storie, what are you doing here?"

Emory quirked an eyebrow at the idea of dragon art fanciers, wondering where, in that case, Rychon’s summoner friend was to be found, but nodded again at Helgin’s courteous resignation. As for the dragon’s question…

He linked his hands behind his head, a roguish grin playing over his features. “I suppose it wouldn’t quite cover it to say I was just along for the ride?” He sounded slightly regretful as he answered his own question. “No, I suppose not.” Emory turned to lean against the window frame, looking out over the sunlit grounds for a long moment. “I can tell you that I’m here with every intention of repaying Rychon for her help, as best I can.” His tone was almost lighthearted again, and even. “Speaking of Rychon, shall we go see how your friends are doing?”

Helgin shrugged his scaly shoulders.
"I don't see why not. Oh, yes I'm Helgin by the way." He imformed Emory. Waiting for Emory to start walking, due to the fact, the dragon had no idea were everything was.

“Helgin, glad to know you,” Emory said, with perfect candor. He looked at the dragon for a moment, realized Helgin was waiting for him to take the lead, and laughed softly. “This way, I think.” He took his bearings again from the tapestries and a particularly imposing portrait that included what might very well have been one of the hounds from the wild hunt itself, and struck out for the wing in which he’d spent the night. It was as good a place as any to start looking for his one-time rescuer. He laughed again inwardly as this phrase came to mind. He hadn’t yet satisfactorily explained to himself why he was still running risks even after he’d gotten Rychon through the wards. A separate initiative than what simple return of favors required, he knew…one that was rather hard on his focus…Pull yourself together. It’s far too easy to get lost here, in more ways than one. Don’t lose sight of what you came for in the first place. You’ll help no one that way.

In spite of some distraction, Emory made it back to the guestroom without trouble. Now the question was, knock on doors, or listen at them?

Rey stopped, considering it for a moment.

She then pointed north. Then west. Then East. The southwest. Then up.

"this looks like a nice place to make camp. some one should catch some fish.im sure these peepl r sick an tired of bread an water. ill be back in an hour or so wit hsome firewood. care to join me Sakura?"

Queequeg stared up, trying to see Rychon. At the mention of fishing, he dug into his pockets once more and hauled out a twenty-by-twenty foot fishing net. He dragged it over to the river, still casting glances up at the sky in attempt to spot Rychon.

Less than two hours later, a camp had been made and the thirty-five people (both prisoners and rescuers) were fed and sleeping the night away.

((Done, finally. Sorry if you wanted to post anything, Snowy, but we've been wrapping this up forever.))

((Just because I felt I owed it to my character to give him some explanation for not acting in the *cough* incident in the hallway that night.))

“Have no fear on my account,” Emory had responded evenly to Rychon’s pointed warning. His expression then was unreadable. It was not until he had shut the door, sketching out a ward of his own onto the smooth wood that effectively soundproofed and separated the guest room from the rest of the manor that he leaned back, sliding down against it to sit, one leg bent, the other extended full length, and gave way to laughter which refused to be suppressed. Wonderful. That’s just wonderful. He rested his head in one hand, shaking with laughter, then, finally reached up with both, interlacing his fingers behind it.

For some time, as stars one by one appeared in the darkness outside the manor, Emory was still, considering what had passed, and what was to be done. Once more, he sent his thoughts out along the threads of possibility, glad to learn that the rest of the prisoners were well cared for by their rescuers, who all appeared to have come through without serious harm. Reaching just beyond, he found a chaotic tangle where the castle magics had once been. “Then Tarnovas has likely met his sudden end. I cannot say I’m not glad of it.” He had intended to refine his preparations, but instead, fatigue stole gradually over him, clouding his thoughts and overruling the emotions of the day. His chin dropped down to his chest. Untroubled by dreams, he slept, dead to the world on ‘till first light.

((Next day? Next day!))

At first light Rychon was awake, crawling out from under Jasmine's bed. Not wanting to wake her host, she perched at the edge of the window and considered slipping out. Of course, that would be turning her back on a lot of things, and she still wanted many of those things. Still, there was no good way to deal with Jasmine's hostile reactions, not without serious compromise. Rychon didn't compromise, not anymore. As she watched the half-breed elemental sleep, she wondered just what had happened in the manor to make things happen like they did.

But then, did it even matter? There are more important things than the past, Rychon told herself. She stared down at her hand and wondered. This was getting sickening.

Jasmine rolled over, away from the light and opened her eyes, her gaze instantly fixating on a small flame from a lamp a half-step from her bed.
Forcing her still chilled muscles to move, Jasmine focused solely on the small source of heat, stumbling the small distance to plunge her finger directly into the middle of the flame, gritting her teeth at the sudden shot of heat firing up her hand.

((actually i was going to have her try to curl up the fireplace, but i think she'd have noticed Rychon by then. She's a very easily fixatable girl ))

"Well, so the mighty Elemental is sick?" Mused Rychon outloud for the benefit of the girl. Rested, she was much more in control of the situation. That was good. She grinned mischieviously. "If that don't beat all. What now, caught a cold? Got yerself a fever?"

Jasmine spun instantly upod hearing Rychon's voice, trying to mask her slight sway ath eth same time.
"I don't claim to be 'mighty', human.' She snapped. "Unlike some people." She shot her a look. "What would you care? How do you even know any of this anyway?!" She demanded, gesturing wildly and not quite noticing that her sleeve had caught fire.

((daaaang, she is not a morning person ^^; heh, sorry bout that))

Rychon laughed shamelessly, then abruptly turned serious. "It's not a matter of caring, Elemental, and you'd be surprised what a human can know. But since you seem like you could use it, I'll offer you some pleasing news instead," She picked at her fingernails casually, taking her time. "Tarnovas is dead."

She shot a glance at Jasmine to see her reaction. "I predict your uncle will be facing some...turbulance."

((just to clarify, Jasmine doesnt hate humans; she's just kind of grown up in a place where that's seen as an insult, and when that happens sometimes they pick up things that they wouldnt normally use and.. yesh ^^;; heh))

Jasmine reeled slightly at the news, her brain racing to find the implications of Rychon's statement.
"Tarnavos... whatever happens to my uncle is no matter for me." She claimed quickly, turning slightly to hide her face as her emotions played across her face.
Finally, something to truly throw the damnable purists off so that the tables could be turned on them once and for all. Not to mention something to upseat her uncle.

As Elvira looked at the starry night sky, she heard footsteps. She turned her head slightly while still on the ground and saw people moving. Without further hesitation, she looked at the sky once more and got up on her feet. She followed the group to wherever they were going. She walked without saying a word behind them and thought of how grateful she is to be outside again.

As the group walked, they crossed the river and joined the other prisoners, rescuers and vilagers. While Queequeg and Neo went to catch fish and firewood respectively, she walked along the vilage and expriencing the fresh air for a while. She walked around by herself with her kissaki by her side.

She helped set up the camp for the thirty-five people and waited for the others to come back with food and firewood. After they have returned, she helped cook the fish. She didn't feel hungry at all, so, she just laid down on the grass with her mind elsewhere.

Leave her alone! She is not involved in this! She is just a child! a sudden vision just came into her mind. She got up while still sitting on the grass and curled herself up. It may be the answer to the scar on her body.

After everyone has finished eating, they all went to sleep and the night passes. Elvira laid down on the grass with her eyes still opened into the night sky. She fell asleep on her kissaki after a while.

"Eh, I feel slaeep outside again? I'm just not used to soft beds anymore..." The dragon rolled its eyes and trotted inside, leaving Xsan be.
"I should have gotten a panther familier, but no....." He got up and patted himself off before going along the out sides of the manor looking around, wilse his dragon looked around on the inside.

"No," Said Rychon. "I don't care how indifferent you wanna be to this, there's somethin' ya need to see. The throne is up for grabs, and quite a few stand to take it. Yer uncle's one, and we know how bad he'll want it...."

"Ya saw that armor, right?" She said after a brief pause. She crossed her arms, a mischievious grin spreading across her face as she watched Jasmine's face searchingly. "You know what it's for? There's a relic in this manor, and I think ya know about it. Maybe even where. Help me find it and I'll help you take care of yer uncle. Make him shake a bit. 'Course, you're the one that's going to have to kill him once and for all. I ain't taking responsibility for it. Well? We got a deal, Jaz?"
_________________

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"My uncle isn't fast enough to take the throne. And the only way I could have missed that armour that's bigger than you were if I were blind." She scowled.
"No one ever wants blood on their own hands. I know of the relic you speak of. What use would it be to one such as you?!" She accused, narrowing her eyes. "And why do I get the feeling that if I were to make this 'deal' with you, I'd be in for more than you claim?"
_________________

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Relax, Jaz," Said Rychon calmly with a shrug, her smile never slipping. "That relic's as much good to a human as the armor is to you. You know humans have no magic, of course. I could simply hand it over to you, or someone in the Underground so they can take the land by force. Do you think I enjoy living my life in hiding? I want the purists out too.

"Though you're right. You'd be in for a lot. There's going to be a war, but you were counting on that already, weren't you?"

Rychon leaned back, satisfied, confident that everything she said was true. She could hand it over. But would? That was another story.
_________________

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"If I were to 'hand over' that relic in the first place, it would only be after you fulfilled your end of the deal; not that there even is one." Jasmine mulled over Rychon's exact words before continuing. From the little she had seen of this character ((yes she would use words like that, trust me.)), she could gather that there was something that she was missing from what she had said. Which part was it?

"If you say that 'there's going to be a war', I think you've already missed half of it."
_________________

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Of course, of course," Said Rychon to the deal. "Your uncle will have a little scare. Nothing big of course, but he'll be reluctant to bother you. As to your war, I have been around a while and seen little of your Underground. I've listened to patrolling guards and they don't feel threatened. Perhaps a few raids here, a few skirmishes there.... No. I'm talking about all out war. Enough hiding. Get a hold of the relic and we've all but won."
_________________

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What some people have experienced is war. They should not have had to go through that, it was not their fight. If you're referring to the relic I think you are, then most would not be able to handle what it could do. Why are you so eager to get your hands on it?" Jasmine tilted her head slightly, trying to focus on Rychon, silhouetted as she was.

Still completely unaware that now her sleeve was half gone. It was a slow burning fire. Yes, yes it was. It was tired, ok? A teenage fire! Yes, that's it.

Sakura slowly opened her eyes against the glare of the morning sun and playfully swatted at Neo's head. "Don't you 'sleepyhead' me!" she said as she got up, just as a plate of bacon and eggs was handed down to her from the branch above. There was no need to guess who it was from. Thanking Queequeg, she eagerly dug in, not having had a decent meal since she and Neo left the Underground a couple of days ago.

Elvira woke up while it was still dark but she couldn't go back to sleep. So, she decided to go take a walk. She walked silently across the grass and the branches on the ground and into the forest. As she walked, she came to a river and sat down. She looked at her own reflection in the water and sighed. She cleaned her face and her hands and stared at the rising sun.

She went back to the camp and saw that everyone was having breakfast. She set herself next to the fire and warmed herself. The food from last night had not been digested in her stomach, so she did not eat any breakfast.

"Who is John Galt?" Rychon said with a shrug of indifference (It's a strange line from a book I'm reading...I couldn't resist!). She let an amused pause linger in the air before smiling crookedly. "It's a treasure, after all, one that hasn't even been looked at since before I was born. Maybe before you were born. It's priceless, and it's within my grasp and mine alone; only one bearing the armor of the Magisters is able to enter. Who wouldn't leap at the chance to seize it?"

Satisfied with their little chat, Rychon stood, stretching as she did. When she finished, her stomach growled angrily, and she realized that she hadn't eaten in well over a day. With an apologetic look at Jasmine, she started for the hallway, giving the flames on Jasmine's arm a little pat as she passed. Opening the door she said, "C'mon Jaz, let's get some food. Later we can get the relic and be done with it. But uh...they'll probably object to seeing a human here...can we eat out of sight?"

((much love Voyd^^))

"Hmm I had best pick up some new clothes, these are fading and making me look as common as that human Rychon." He said as he grabbed the crystal necklace and shot towards what he believed was shore. "Got to love these things, I seriously hope I am going the right way... AHh yes I see it... and a city no less^^" He said as he approached the shore and became a young male in form. When he came to shore he stopped and walked out of the water to an awestruck fisherman. "Hello sir," he said with a bow and continued to head to the port village.

Once he arriver in the village a little boy accidentally bumped into him and was thrown off. "Hey there bud, are you all right?" He said.

The boy then said,"Yes mister, Did you go swimming???"
"Err, yeah..."Brodi said.
"Wow! wasnt the water cold?" the boy said.

"I am use to it." He said as he tilted his head and rubbed the back of it. "Hey do you know where the nearest shop is? For like clothes, ya know?."
"Cool, mister... ohhh yeah... Right that way to the right, Can't miss it." the boy replied.
"Thanks! Go have fun!." Brodi replied as he watched the boy run off...

He easily found the shop afterwards. As soon as he entered he found what he wanted, a pair of baggy pants and good tight shirt to move around in. "Perfect for my lessons, How much ma'm?" he said to the Shopkeeper.

"The whole thing for 50, well actually anything to get you out of here. You are going to get everything wet." She said kindly.
"Oh here you go," he said as he handed her the money. "Sorry about the water." He then said leaving with a bow and slightky embarassed.

As he walked out, he headed to a an alley and then vanished from there. He reappeared in his room with the clothes he had just bought already on.

“My problem to be solved, evidently,” Emory murmured to Helgin.

“A good morning to you, Rychon, Jasmine,” he said as the two of them came down the hall. “Food sounds promising. Of course, if this is to be an exclusive breakfast party, by all means, don’t let me keep you.” He pulled a face of infinite long-suffering. His dark eyes dancing he added, “If this dragon and I waste away, our comfort will come in knowing we did it for the better cause.”

Jasmine blinked a few times before narrowing her eyes and following Rychon out into the corridor, stifling the last of the flames with her hand.
She acknowledged Emory with a bare nod of her head before turning on Rychon again.
"Well, I for one wouldn't. Especially since I don't know what you plan to do with it for one thing." Jasmine scowled, still glaring at Rychon.
If I told you I was innocent, would you believe me?
