How hard was year nine for you?
The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive... or bastardized versions thereof.

"Heartless," James mutters, "cruel, unfeeling -- the dizziness is within my soul, Moony. She's given me a -- a disease, or something."
"Can't give you a disease if she always says no to a date," Sirius points out, pragmatically.

Here in America we call our year nines freshmen. First year of high school. I think some schools start 'em at sophomores though.
I'm bored.

Because I think they actually mean something. Plus, what do you call a year 9 student when you want to make fun of them? I had a ton of friends who I addressed as "hey, freshman!" There's two of them whose names I don't actually know... They're two of my favorites, too.
I'm bored.

In the Netherlands we begin counting again at high school, although we call it middle school ^_^

"Basic" school (grades 1 to 8) ages 4 to 12
"Middle" school (grades 1 to 4, 5, or 6) ages 12 to 16, 17 or 18
"High" school (years 1 to 4) at the end you get a bachelor
University (years 1 to 4 or more) at the end you get your master ^_^

You don't have to do "high" school between middle and university. Especially when you do the long version of "middle" school which is 6 years of highest level teachings and people are expected to choose a university after that.

Oh, about freshmen! We call the first years of the "middle" schools "brugpiepers" (=bridge squeekers) as they are crossing the bridge from basic school to middle school. They come from a school where they were the oldest and arrive at a school where they are suddenly the youngest (and often smallest).

It's also often the year where it's decided if you are going to do the low, middle, high or highest level of middle school. So all levels are together there and get split up in the second year. It's a bridging year.
