Rychon made her way back to sewers and wandered into a quiet turnout as a small patrol stormed past. As the steady drop of a leaky pipe replaced the tap of the guards' shoes, she walked a slow and uneven pace deeper into the tunnels. After a while she stopped, leaned her back against the sewer wall and kicked her foot against the floor. It was taking too goddamn long.
"Well?" Rychon said. The leaky pipe let down an extra drop but no more. "I know yer here so geddit the hell over with."
"Pleasant aren't you, vermin?" A faded shape hovered over the water, seeming to sit nonchalantly on air. It was too dark to make out any features. "Did you have a reason for interfering? Oh, perhaps you would like to explain your late night antics? You are creating more trouble than you are worth, Rychon. Remember our agreement."
"Agreement. Hah! I oughta be the one in charge!" Shouted Rychon. "Yer doin' everythin' t' plan an' lookit the mess we got! Ya said 'army.' Where's it at? Ya said riches. I ain't got none. I wanna get more, like ya promised. 'Course I pillage it."
"And what would you plan?"
"Stay th' hell outta th'mess, wait fer Miss Sunshine ta rally th' town, kill 'er, frame 'er, or maim 'er, take the throne. Or hell, take all th'gold we can and move on ta the next town. I like tha' one. I say we head east."
"Do you think you would not be chased out there, little rat?" The figure shifted positions, leaning forward. Her fangs caught the slightest bit light and glistened like diamonds. Or knives. Rychon hated when she did that. "They'll hunt you down forever for what you did. You know they will. You remember. What choice to you have? Don't feign anger, little rat, just do as you are told."
