Colour

If you were exiled to the armpit of America, wouldn't you want to be somewhere else as well?

Colour

Post by Duff the Tragic Wagon »

Just wanted to say, I really love the use of colour in today's (December 6th) mega-strip (which was also brilliant as a whole). Really added to the emotional punch, especially when you consider the way colour was used in the prequel strips (how long has that been there? I only noticed it when Eric Burns mentioned it on Websnark. And congratulations on that, by the way).

So, yeah, basically, Mr Siebels, you're a genius. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.

I colored the "lost years" strips about 2 months ago, but I waited till last week to update them in the archives.

I love how when you get to North Dakota, the color just leeches out of everything. :D I'll have to tangent this sometime. :D

And you should let us know when you do things like this. ;) (Or did I just miss the memo? Damn, I should clean my desk more often...)

I decided to do this after getting the inspiration one night laying in bed.

I was seriously considering how I use spot color, what it all means, how to effectivly apply it during the strip so it keeps it's special "meaning" without really making it seem over used.

And then I realized that every time I've used it, it's to heighten the emotional atmosphere (well, MOST of the times I've used it.)

So then I began thinking...WHY is this world black and white? What is it?

And I pretty much realized that it stems from NORTH DAKOTA itself being so bland. So emotionless.

Which, when I came to that realization, ment that I should probibly color the first strips while he's in Wisconsin.

So, thus...we see just how lively his life is....and then see all the joy ripped away.

Which is why the strip on Dec 6th (or should I say, Dec 9th for those who will read it in the archives) NEEDED to be more then just spot color.

Because both of these characters are having a ratther important emotional breakthrough at this point.
