Strip for December 19th
I hope that David Wright doesn't take any offense to todays strip, and if he does I offer my sincerest apologies.
I will admit, I don't follow Todd and Penguin. Not daily like I do with strips like Jack, or Count your Sheep, or Sinfest. Rather I tend to wait a few weeks, and then get caught up on the story in rather large swoops.
But Friday's strip was brought to my attention...
And, for the first time in my life, I was brought to tears by a comic strip...
And as I sat at work, working on this weeks strips, I HAD to do the strip that was running today. It was too...emotional for me to let Todd sit there and NOT provide some comfort to him.
Man, that sounds stupid doesn't it? Resonating with a fictional character that deeply. But it's the truth.
And Immediatly, Death walked up to me, in his Blue FUBU hoodie, put his hand on my shoulder, which is oddly comforting, and said..."I have work to do." And I just couldn't say no...because it's BLOODY DEATH, and you really don't argue with him, you just kinda nod and say "Sure, whatever you want."
David, bravo, bra-fucking-O my good man.

And for those of us who don't really follow other webstrips, where could we find this masterpiece?
No, the artwork's not mine... like I'd have such talent

This WOULD have been todays update, provided the updater didn't jam:

It's a very rare thing for me to read something and be moved to the point of tears. But Sunday, I was moved incredably deeply by something I read. Something that moved me so passionatly, that I had to say SOMETHING about it.
I'll confess, Todd and Penguin isn't a strip that I read daily. I tend to check it out every few weeks or so and get caught up on the story. But Friday's strip was brought to my attention, and after reading it...
Well, as funny as this sounds, I couldn't let Todd sit there in his suffering and do nothing.
Yeah, it sounds stupid. But I was that moved, and immediatly I realized that Death would not just sit by. Or rather, that I couldn't just sit by and not comment on it.
I feel rather bad about this, because normally when I use another author's creations, I prefer to get their consent. I haven't even contacted David Wright yet, because I got done with this strip at 2AM and am about ready to pass out...so David, if you want me to pull this, just let me know..

I'm not sure if it's ironic or not that you tell me of strips around Christmas or so that will make me want to tangent your comic again... and then it's a little thing like this which gets the tangent.
But damn, this one is good, Jason. Damn good.

I don't follow Todd and Penguin and read about what happened in the series from Websnark. And now your comic.
I choked up. That doesn't happen often...in fact, hardly ever.
You hit home with me, dead center. I've two teenagers, been a parent for 17 years (my oldest is 17, youngest is 15). And dammit, this comic just nailed me.
Good job.

Sentimentality is evoking an emotional reaction by appealing to powerful associations in the reader's heart, rather than by art alone.
This is a sentimental work. Those of us who don't have children, have been children. Killing off children always works.
But, fuck it. It is good sentimentality. It is from the heart, and there is art in it, too.
Sure got to me. Boom, splat, dead on the floor in a puddle of tears.

He's just evil that way.
Not to mention insane. Did I mention he's nuts? Mad as a hatter? Quite mad?

Hello, regular Todd and Penguin reader here. I was directed here from a link on the T&P page and I saw your comic and just had to post a message! It was so beautiful, it actually moved me to tears. Thank you for commenting on a comic that I enjoy reading everyday
David Wright
Hi, I do read Todd and Penguin, but with Christmas, I was behind. Anyway, I saw a link from his site to yours (sorry, I had never seen yours before) and I checked out your comic.
Talk about being moved to tears. It was amazing! I found it very moving.
So, I signed up to join the forum just to let you know how much I enjoyed that strip and now, I'm going to have to read all the others!
