OTAKON '07

The lives of two self-proclaimed geek/gamer chicks as told by themselves. Sadly, we don't have to exaggerate much from reality.

Hmmm...

Otakon is July 20 - July 22, 2007 and the Baltimore Comicon is September 8 - September 9, 2007. Might be too close together for me. :(

I'm gonna be off on vacation in the wilds of northern Minnesota visiting my Auntie and cousins in July, so I'll have to pass on Otakon for yet another year...~sigh!~

Yeah, I was there once in 2002 with Fred and had a blast and I've wanted to go back ever since. I'll try again in 2008.

The Baltimore Con is a "maybe"...I'm working on it.

There is *always* a chance of SWWinchester at Otakon '07, but nothing even close to official. Yet. I will have to tap D-Man and see if he's up for insane con running, since GenCon Indy is a VERY short timeframe away from Otakon.

... in all honesty, even if I say I'm not going, I may well show up there for a day and go home ... so just be on the watch for a guy wearing full SWAT-style gear ... and a Geek Squad logo on the back of the vest. ^_^

at the moment, my brother's being a total dick about going to otakon. my original plan had changed from going to the con with maryka to going with rj, my brother & his girlfriend. up until today, my brother seemed cool with the idea, now he says it's gonna cost too much and he can't afford to miss work. of course i put so many holes in that excuse, he just kinda mummbled at me about it.
so, kristy: how much is a hotel room gonna cost me? we plan on coming down friday night and leaving sunday afternoon.

I'm really not sure. I'm bunking/driving with some Savannah buddies this time around so we've only really kinda discussed the per person cost. I'll have to talk to the guy in charge of the hotel rooms and find out for you.

PS
I usually don't respond to text messages that often since my service plan doesn't cover them. Gomen. ^_^; But I'll call you once I get a hold of Ricky.

well, it looks like it might be just me & rj going. if there's room on a floor for us somewhere, that would be great. that way the rooms will be cheaper for everyone ^_^ we're probably taking the bus or borrowing a friend's car. bus tickets are gonna be about $230 for both of us to get down there. that's not too bad, it would just be better if my brother would stop being an ass and we could drive down there in his gf's jeep.
find out about room costs, just in case, though. there's still a little glimmer of hope that lies in amber (bro's gf). she really wants to go.
...and now my friend sam wants to go... kinda. he makes enough money to not have to worry about how much it's gonna cost. that's a good thing ^_^

Well, when I went to Otakon in 2002, I had a room in a hotel literally a block or so away from the convention center. Fred was lucky and was house-sitting for one of her aunts nearby.

This was a room all to myself and I had a $600+ bill to pay off. Yes, it was a really nice room and I had a parking garage for the car.

When you divide that between several people, it shouldn't be too bad cost wise.

Anyway, I had a blast and I hope to FINALLY go again next year.

My best to all who do go to Otakon and I hope there'll be a picture or two of the festivities.

well, all i have to do now is register! :D
i found an uber-cheap motel (econo lodge) that's about 10 miles from the con center. it's not gonna be the swankiest place but it'll provide beds and a shower.
my friend, sam, is definitly going. he's probably making his registration now.

Great!

Yeah, I don't care about about swanky either...if the room and beds are clean and the shower and potty work, that's all that matters to me.

Congrats on finding a cheap motel for Otakon! With those two big parking garages so close to the convention center, parking oughta be easy.

If all goes well, I HOPE to make it to Otakon next year ~crosses fingers~. I needed to get away more for vacation next month, though.

Have a great time!

As I recall, I pre-registered for the 2002 show and it still took me quite a while to get into the show that year. So, I'd expect to spend some time in line.

Anyway, I wish I could be there this year as my planned trip to see relatives this month went to pot (Long story)...so, I'm taking a vacation at home, which sucks but I'm making the best of it. I still get paid for not being at work.

So...everyone travel safe, have fun and share pics with us when you get back.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, Otakon '07 will not be attended by SWWinchester. -_-

I hope everyone had a great time that went. I wish I could have gone although just thinking about the crowds makes me feel faint. I couldn't have gone this year, but some day I will get to it.

I had forgotten that it was this past weekend until I went to my local comic shop and wanted to pick up death note #1 since I picked up 3-5 at borders (buy 3 get the 4th free is hard for me to resist even if it is only on Viz titles).
When I walked into the store I noticed the entire back half of it was totally empty. I then looked at the counter person and said... Otakon? :)

Hi hi! I met you at Otakon! I was the large, hairy guy. I also met Kristy, I think.

The con, it was fun, no? Very large and noisy.

Hi everyone,

I'm glad those who attended Otakon were able to go, had a good time and got home safely.

I was there once in 2002 and I've been trying to get there again for the past five frigging years! Oh well, we'll see what next year brings.

Thanks for sharing the con sketchbook pages, Kristy! I wish I could've been there to hang out, doodle in the sketchbook and chat again but things didn't work out (sigh!).
