I'm rather glad Gladiator won best picture. It seems that every year some shitty art film wins. Now, I'm not opposed to all art films, as some of them are quite entertaining. But it's the one's that are boring as hell that get to me, and those are the ones that tend to win best picture. Gladiator was a traditional hero vs. villain movie with a good story... I thought it was damn entertaining, even if it didn't make me reconsider the meaning of life and my place in the world.

Even though i really enjoyed Gladiator, it didn't give the 'best movie of the year' feeling when i saw it, but maybe it was comparing to the other nominees, since i haven't seen any of them yet (accually i'm of to see Traffic right now, so don't hold me to this post just yet).
But i have a strong feeling that Traffic is gonna win my vote, since one of my all time favorite actors is in it (guess who .

I haven't seen Traffic either, but some of my friends, who are usually into crap like that, said it sucked. But I'm holding back judgement until I actually see it for myself.
So what's YOUR verdict?

Ok, my take on the oscars. I'll run this through by category, ignoring all the boring ones like sound editing.
Visual Effects: Gladiator
Bullshit, this should've gone to Perfect Storm.
Song: Things Have Changed
The most predictable of all the awards this year. I'd be surprised if any of the other song nominations gathered more than two or three votes. But hey, Dylan rocks.
Score: CTHD
Academy: 'This score was composed by a classical composer therefor it must be the best score'
Now it's a nice score so I don't mind. I'm just glad the Patriot score didn't win.
Foreign movie: CTHD
Well duh. I wished it wasn't nominated for this category because it took too much attention away from the other nominees, like the great Amores Perros and the nice Belgian movie Everybody Famous.
Screenplay(adapted): Traffic
Not bad, I was rooting for Wonderboys tho, just so it would get an award other than the We Love Bob Dylan Award.
Screenplay(original): Almost Famous
Fuckin A! Should've been nominated for best movie.
Supporting Actress: Marcia Gay Harden
I'm sure the five people who actually saw Pollock will be very glad. I was expecting Judy Dench to win and rooting for Kate Hudson.
Supporting Actor: Benicio del Toro
Deserved to win but of course he should've been nominated for best actor.
Best Actress: Julia Roberts
So a lot of people are calling this bullshit. Fuck them. She deserved it.
Best Actor: Russell Crowe
Yeah well, of the ones nominated he deserved to win. He should've won last year for The Insider tho.
Best Director: Soderbergh
Right on!
and finally Best Movie: Gladiator
The only one of the nominees I haven't seen is Chocolat. Frankly I didn't care if Gladiator, Traffic or CTHD won, they were all good movies in their own right. Almost Famous should've been nominated, dammit!
As for the show itself, I really enjoyed it, Steve Martin beats that Crystal freak with one hand tied to his back. Some deserving wins, some nice speeches, a fast pace and Bob Dylan with a ridiculous moustache, Lopez' nipples, yup, I liked it.
------------------

I must say that Gladiator was a fucking good movie, but compared to Traffic and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I haven't seen any of the other movies nominated) it did not deserve best picture.
My favorite movie of all time is Blade Runner. There is absolutely no doubt about that.
And, in case you wanted to know, I'm not drunk right now.

Unfortunately....

The show would've been much better if they'd had a little square in the corner of the screen devoted to a Jennifer Lopez Nipple Cam. Twas the highlight of the show, as far as I'm concerned!

so i saw Traffic the other day... and i must agree with Corynn, well not the drunk part, well the part of not being drunk certainly, but not the Unfortunately part, since that would mean i would want to be drunk, wich i don't, not right now anyways, but i will later, i'm sure.

erh, well i think my point was that compared to Traffic, Gladiator (a good movie in all it's might) did NOT deserve to win.
and also, it's truly patetic that they nominated Benicio Del Toro for best supporting actor, when he clearly had the LEAD Roll in Traffic, just because they had decided to give an oscar to both Russell Crowe and him... LAME LAME LAME,
Russell Crowe is a good actor, but Benicio's performance in Traffic was nothing short from brilliant.

Only Counting movies i've seen in the theaters:
1. Traffic
2. Snatch
and uuuh, that's about it this year...
then i have seen a bunch on my home theater, wich sadly is better then the Theater downtown where all the good movies are shown.
wich is really sad, since i am a strong believer that good movies should be seen at the theater, but well that's life for you.

Sadly i have seen neither traffic or Gladiator... and i probably never will. Though i heard Gladiator was really good, i am not sure that it is my...type of movie though. I saw Get Over It the other weekend...it was rather amusing, no award winning movie but not trash either
Katie
