I decided to try my hand at a Ghostz T-shirt. You can find it at www.cafepress.com/ghostz
I'm not exactly thrilled by the result but it's the best I can do for the moment. I used Writer's Block instead of any of the ghosts because of copyright issues and because I just plain like his 'Don't compromise my art!' line. I'm not sure yet if this is the final design (probably is). Any comments or suggestions?
I'll post it on the site on monday.
Edited by Mark Gerrits at: 5/19/00 1:33:39 pm

Why not just replace the ghostz with some of your "doodles" - you know, like the ones you posted on your messageboard.
Also, I don't think the pacman ghosts are copywrighted, simply for the fact that there were about 7 million clones released and none of them were sued.
-Ray

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because I can't do those guys in profile AND frontal shots. The plan is to one day stop with ghostz and move onto a new comic that I will be able to call 100% mine. I'm just not ready for that yet.
Quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hasbro recently acquired the American rights to a lot of old computer games like Tetris, Asteroids, etc (don't know if pacman was among them). They started sueing some companies that were selling clones. From what I gathered from those cases, the argument you're making is usable in court but not always followed. There seem to be legal precedents that if a company neglects to protect its copyright for a long time, the copyright becomes public domain, but it's all very subjective and that's when the guy with the most money to spend on lawyers usually wins. Those Hasbro cases were finally settled out of court so there's still a lot of vagueness about the copyright of these old games, especially for programmers.

All right! This is a sure-fire way to get popular! Make money off of someone else's creation, then get sued, then have 2000 hits a day!

Damn, you're on to me!
But seriously, I wouldn't dare make money off of it. All I do is log everybody who visits ghostz and keep track of all the rest they do on the internet and use that knowledge for blackmail. Muahahaha! Oh by the way, Dave, check your download directory, that 'fun on the farm' mpeg is finally done downloading.

Alas, it appears another one of my attempts at humour has failed. I'll just have to stick to writing the drama filled commentary on modern day health care that we all call Ghostz.
