Vague plans to not make this topic until I finished the first real arc have been derailed by impatience. Critique is very much welcome.
Vigil.
Vigil is, I suppose, a bit more serious than most webcomics are. Certainly I won't be going out of my way to make jokes or anything. The introductory arc is kind of badly planned, not so well drawn and a bit rushed, but at least it provides some action and introduces a few of the characters and concepts. I'm much happier about the chapter I'm doing now. What I really like about doing a comic like this is that I can come up with story as I go along, and since it takes so long to create the comics I don't really need to worry about running out of ideas.
Vigil is about talking animal-people because I like drawing animals and dislike drawing people (and I have trouble with doing simplified faces; I can do more realistic ones ok, but can't seem to do either manga style or the western style of simplified human features) and I need to enjoy drawing my characters or I won't be able to keep going. The world of Vigil avoids furry confusion by not having any real animals. Instead it is entirely populated by imaginary monsters I made up. I'm a bio minor, so I like to put a lot of realistic detail into the creatures and ecosystems I create. (Wait till you hear my explanations of all of the zombies in the current chapter. Science zombies.) But I also like them to be pretty outlandish.

This is probably not the best way to entice people to read the comic…Alias Pseudonym wrote:The introductory arc is kind of badly planned, not so well drawn and a bit rushed, but at least it provides some action and introduces a few of the characters and concepts.

Re: Vigil
All right then, forget I said it. The introduction features a unique and innovative 'rougher' style that meshes well with the relative realism of the world at large. The introductory arc is fast paced and exciting with characters and strange creatures and concepts being introduced one after another, but by the first arc proper the pace settles down to allow for real deep and meaningful storytelling. Though not all of it has appeared yet, the world of Vigil is unique and fully fleshed out with a great deal of interesting history, culture and geography, and much of what you read in the intro and first arc hints at things to come and places not yet explored. Vigil is a world where science rules, and I intend to make full use of that Bio minor I'm working on to make sure all of it's outlandish creatures ecosystems are at least plausible. For example, the first arc is full of zombies and I am quite proud of my explanation of them. The second arc has six winged phoenixes being fired out of cannons while on fire, which might be pushing it a bit but the idea was so cool I couldn't pass it up.
In short, Vigil is an epic tale of survival, self discovery, about a million other things, and monster killing on a Beowulf inspired level. You should definitely read it.

Come on, now you're just saying stuff you don't mean!
No offense meant.
But I still took a look at the comic this time. While I'm definitely not a fan of splatter (of which there isn't a lot, but still not my cup of tea), I can see your style is improving quickly.

Re: Vigil
So long, suckers!
Erm. What I mean is, Virmir of Crimson Flag has been nice enough to offer me hosting somewhere with a working update system. So I shall be hanging out there from now on.
Thoughts on how the comic is coming along would be nice too.
