Beyond Good-N-Evil! Don't miss out or mom's gunna be mad!!

Post by SpasticDisaster »

I'm here to pitch my goods. Obviously.

Beyond Good-N-Evil
http://www.beyondgoodnevil.com
(Note: I haven't updated my sig, just getting back to the forums. That addy works to. You just get redirected with this URL. Easier to remember.)

Beyond Good-N-Evil, now going on its second year, focuses on five main characters, of various ilk, and this insanity they call life. I'm still in the expository stages. It's a gray scale comic. It's fun. In the dark sort of way. I pride myself on BGnE's dark side. It's enough, but not to the point where it's just tasteless or anything. I think it's managed well. It's got more than a touch of the supernatural, and I think anyone with a darker sense of humor will like it.
The current post is a fairly cookie-cutter Happy Anniversary to myself, but check out the archives, there's some gems. You can also see how my art mutates.

Any criticism is accepted, I know I need work on the updating end, which I've been working on the last few weeks without listing a billion apologies on my site.

Ok, moved on from the anniversary comic, so now you can really get a feel from the main page.

Please, guys, some input?

Really? Hm. I haven't heard of anyone I know having problems... My sig has a direct link it's CG page. Could try that.

It's late, so I didn't get through it all, but here are some thoughts.

-Text style matches the art style, but ye gods, I wish it was easier to read. Granted, I know how rough it can be sometimes to find the correct font (I'm still in search of some decent well-spaced block lettering for my own main character. Tahoma ain't cutting it).
-It seems a lot of your panels end in silence, with the characters just standing there. It might just be me, but it feels like there's a huge, invisible elipsis (. . .) just hanging over their heads, and leaves me with an equally huge "meh" when I'm done with that page. It's not compelling, and generally speaking the characters aren't expressive enough to carry the full weight of the comic on looks alone. Doesn't make me want to keep reading.
[Addendum: I skipped ahead and read backwards for about eight pages. A few of my comments have been nixed since you seem to have resolved those issues.]

All in all, it's a decent comic with some mildly interesting developments, but nothing that really grabs me and says "YOU MUST GO BACK FOR MORE!"

I've really enjoyed reading through a bunch of your archive. Your style is awesome (even though the text is a bit hard to read at times) and the site design works well with the comic. Good stuff... keep working on the updating schedule though. It's been a while, eh?

Nice art.. A bit hard to read and to figure out the art sometimes.. Maybe more distinction between characters and background, some changes in composition (character placement, etc) could make It all clearer. On the other hand, you probably dont want It clearer :)

Congrats on your comic!
