Shotgun Chance - band humor?

Read this before you read the comic:

Okay, so i started the comic about a month ago, and it's a style of humor i'm not really used to. For most of my comic related work, i do not so serious stuff. You know, the kind that breaks the fourth wall and whatnot. This is a little new for me, doing a more realistic comic.

The drawing style is also new to me. I wanted it in black and white, and also to be a tad less "animeish". And also to leave it looking kind of messy, because i like it like that.

Suggestions are VERY welcome, but please don't bash it beyond hell without giving me any advice. i hate that. IT HAS CRUDE HUMOR THAT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, AND CONTAINS NUDITY AND SWEARING!!!

A couple things I noticed from just a casual perusal:

The background is loud. My eyes aren't bleeding (possibly because I survived McDuffies site), but wow.

I can see the marker lines in the black areas. You should up the contrast and get rid of those.

You used "sweet merciful crap." Others have done so before.

On this point there is thoery that state sthat self-depreciation sells. While I think it's horribly cliche and works only if your name is Rodney Dangerfield, Jon Stewart or Conan O' Brien I understand the need to want to do it. However, this does take a step beyond that and attacks your readers via yourself. While this is something that is also done in pop culture (see Sam Kinison, Triumph and Don Rickles) It's a dangerous line to tread so I'd be careful while treading it. Even in your rants.

I dig the band humor, but I'd be careful not to let the jokes go too far over people's heads. I don't think they have just yet, but I can see it as a potential threat.

One last comment. The background on the website wouldn't have been my first choice.

Other than that and what FAUB mentioned pretty good stuff. I'll be checking back regularly to see how 'the band' is progressing.

Whoops. that rant is old. When keenspace told me i had 3 daily visits... ... ...yeah. Okay, i'll submit, i'll change the background to the site. It guess it WAS a little loud or whatever you called it...

As far as the marker stuff goes - yeah, i already contrast it a LOT, i think i just need to be a little neater with my inking. Thanks for that info tho.

Any more comments on the art or writing?

nevermind. I like the background colors. but inking will clean up.
