The Unknown Superheroes - UHKurt

Post by UnknownHeroKurt »

The USH is done by James Tilby and Kurt Smith, who both serve as artists and writers for the strip. It's about two supernatural creatures (of some sort) living in the big city, and therefore have no predisposition for heroics...unless there's pay. It starts out with the "monster", Jimi Grimling, driving through the New Jersey Pine Barrens and meeting who appears to be the Jersey Devil. Indeed, he goes by the name, but Jimi comes from a town filled with tons of psychoes who claim to be someone famous. Either way, the guy had power, so he figured if he let him stay with him he would be an asset to his various odd jobs. From then on we chronicle their encounters with organized crime, nightmarish creatures, and paying their rent. That, and the occasional crazy girlfriend.

Our comic will most likely have everything you can rate an R-rated movie for except the most explicit. We're not into graphic sex, gore, or swearing every other word, but this is definitely meant for readers our age and young adults. we also have a lot of in-jokes and other references that most may not catch.

We're certain we'll get a lot of questions asking about what the hell we're talking about, if we get messages at all. Anyway, here's the link:

MY EYEEEES! MY BEAUTIFUL DEMONIC EYEEEES!

It's got its moments. =) The art's a little grainy, but it sounds like you're still learning Photoshop and getting used to the whole business of it.

...I guess I actually don't have much to say. You guys kinda remind me of me and Philip when we were starting SMac... but in color. =P Well, godspeed on your quest for infamy, and keep truckin'.

Grand Prize

Post by UnknownHeroKurt »

We started this thing, where if you can list all the things I forget to draw on my characters (continuity-wise), we'll give out a prize. Fanservice or something.

Soooooo.....This is the pitch? ............... .......... 8====> :D .
Okay, My name is James. I'm more or less the writer. I had nothing to do today so I thought that I'd post on the forum on Comic Genesis. Most of my time is spent drawing, writing, and playing video games along side school and what-have-you. ........... I like cheerios. I havn't had those in a while. I think I'll go to the store tommorow and buy some. Are there any other breakfast stuffs that help some sort of creative process?
Back on topic, I live in Heidelberg Germany with Kurt on a military base. This whole thing started as poorly drawn comics in our notebooks that we sent ot each other back and forth for the better part of two years. Our ideas and art evovled and we began drawing out in the open: Displaying our artwork somewhat reluctantly. We got noticed by a few people and ended up publishing on the internet last March. Now we're getting asked to draw for other people; some one even trusted Kurt enough to ask him to design a permenant tatto. Why am I telling you our life's story? Because Kurt has more or less said everything there is to say about the comic. I don't think he mentioned the upcoming Witch Ho's, nor the mexican street urchins. Oh wait, that was my idea.
Get back to me on that cereal thing, and drop us a line if you visit us. We'll even put up the first guest art we get.

Ho?

Post by UnknownHeroKurt »

She's not a "ho". I was using that as slang to describe her as Jersey's girlfriend...or soon-to-be GF. She has too much pride to be a "ho".

But yes, what he said is true. This brings back fond (and not so fond) memories of my struggle to draw at least one decent picture once in a while. Here are a few of the good ones.

The personality archetype for Jimi actually evolved out of a derenged psychopath with bad dental hygine. That Jimi was a little more quirky (and schizophrenic) than the current model, with little shame or regard for life. I liked that Jimi, he was funny. This Jimi seems more real, though. He has pride and comitment, he even has justifications for being a grouch most of the time. Developing Jimi was the most difficult thing I ever did at that point, and the results.......
I think I might bring "crazy" Jimi back for a filler comic or somthing.

It's a bit hard to make out sometimes, but an interesting concept overall...
Can't wait to see how it'll develop. 8-)

I HEARBY PROMISE THAT FROM THIS DAY FORTH I SHALL TAKE MY TIME WHEN MAKING A COMIC!

Every update I have done so far (save the last couple of pages in chapter two)
has been rushed horribly. Go and look at todays comic. I spent a good couple of hours outlining and thumbnailing that thing to perfection and I rushed the hell out of it when the time came to draw. I could blame WOW, but I'd rather blame myself. So on Friday, the comci will show that a good amount of work has been done. Mail or PM me, or just reply to this to commend or condemn me. I desperatley need outside input. I think that my friends are afraid of me.
