Free comic book day

Post by Killbert-Robby »

My haul today was quite good. Two GI Joe The Rise of Cobra. Savage Dragon. Zero Issue of Blackest Night. Cthulhu Tales (I was expecting a horror comic, but this shit is LULZY). Zombies Feast. The Punisher. Resurrection. And lastly I paid for Guerrials, a comic about soldier apes.

Damn it! I forgot that was today. I suppose I now know what I'll be doing with my afternoon.

I got some things.

edit: They are different things than Robby got.

edit2: I will tell you these things.

edit3:
FREE SHIT:
Bongo (Simpsons)
Transmetropolitan
Resurrection
Shonen Jump
Wolverine
Radical
The Avengers
Blackest Night (Green Lantern and something? I dunno.)

SHIT I PAID FOR. BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANNA BE A CHEAP-ASS AND JUST GET A BUNCHA FREE STUFF AND LEAVE:
Wasteland #24 (I dunno what the hell this is, but it looks cool.)
Spawn #191 (Cool artwork.)
Ignition City #1 (Cool artwork and I dunno WTF it's about.)

There were a few more free things that I didn't get because they looked stupid and I didn't wanna read 'em. Although I probably shoulda grabbed 'em anyways. But I guess I grabbed eight free books already and I didn't wanna be a dick taking all of 'em. 'Cause I got to this one fairly early, but in the past I've generally gotten to FCBD later in the day and most of the stuff's gone and I didn't wanna be "that guy" who takes everything even though he doesn't want it.

I was so sad, my comic shop had a very poor selection. Only like five different things, all of them for young kids

I didn't make it out today (still sick) but I'm a little surprised. Our comic shop has a rule of two freebies per customer, though you can get more if you come back the next day. Apparently it's a house rule.

All the Indy publications go like wildfire though.

I took my brother and nephew to my local shop. We could each take three, which meant my nephew got six, because my bro ain't into comics. I picked up Love & Rockets, Preacher, and Savage Dragon, all of which are comics I haven't looked at since the 90's. There was a good selection of comics my nephew, who's 9, could choose from. I also sorted through the bargain bins, which is where I go for comics these days. Picked up the full run of the failed DC revamp of The Warlord, featuring the artwork of Bart Sears, for five bucks. My brother bought some gaming supplies, and since we spent more than $15, we got a free hardcover copy of the Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born TPB. That was very cool.

All in all, it was a fun trip.

I'd like to take this moment to talk about GI Joe. The comics are amazing and I will be buying more. This shit is a hardcore military story, not PEW PEW I SHOOT LASERS IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION. Also, I will keep buying Cthulhu Tales. Arkham : SVU was fucking hilarious, and the horror strips in it are pretty damn good. The art in the SVU main-story thing wasn't the best I'd seen, but the second story looked beautiful. Guess I'm making a trip back to the comic store tomorrow.

Joe's good again, eh? That's good to know. I have all of the issues (on disk) leading up to about where IDW took over the franchise, but I admit that the Image/Devil's Due attempts were very disappointing to me, and I gave up on my precious Joes. I might pick it back up again.

I actually scored free shit for once. ^__^ Between me and the girlfriend, we got:

NASCAR HEROES (Origins Special!)
Dark Horse Comics (haven't read yet)
Resurrection (kinda cool)
GIJOE/Transformers (haven't read yet)
Comics Festival! (Some pretty rad stuff there, some really weird--it's Canadian scene. Includes Kate Beaton and Ryan North!)
Gold Digger (a total piece of crap)
Atomic Robo (Haven't read yet)
Love And Capes Issue 10 (kinda lulzy)
Radical (pretty pictures)
Worlds of Aspen (Mike Turner stuff, y'know how that goes...)
FCHS (a bit more relationshippy than I was hoping, but kinda cute art)
Contract (crummy superheroine-with-a-twist and big boobs kinda thing, but I've seen worse)

I almost bought a Jellaby comic. They're cute.
