This movie is highly likely to suck since it won't be more than a cash in on the (honestly excellent) cartoons, but whitewashing the cast wasn't a great start. Whiteboy Zuko is gonna look kinda strange with his clearly very asian uncle. I hope they can at least do martial arts..
The first two are fine but Zuko doesn't look nearly grumpy enough. As for whitewashing I can't believe anyone could be really surprised by this. This is Hollywood. And, in fairness, finding actors of good calibre of the right ethnic background who speak clear English and look like the characters would be very hard.
Don't care anyway. If it was originally a book or comic, I would, but as it stands, if you want to watch a great version of Avatar which remains true to the original, then you can just watch Avatar.
Can't wait to see waterbending on the bid screen though. Dumbledore did a little in Order of the Pheonix but the real stuff should be much more impressive.
They're trying to reach that tween market (HSM3, Twilight, etc) and more than likely the movie will be a hit with that demographic. They aren't paying attention the 18+ crowd that still watches OMG CARTOONZ, because to a lot of people, that's a tad creepy. Unless it's Family Guy or Futurama or South Park, or something.
My fear is that these kids will get famous off of Avatar, get invited into all the hottest Hollywood clubs at 14, get addicted to drugs, lose weight, go to jail for 30 days and then have a E! True Hollywood story about trying to recover from the fame and make something out the shambles that could have been an actual career in movies.
You know, like every other Under 18 Over 12 star in Hollywood.
Aang has actually been cast, but there's no photos of the kid about. Supposedly he's a karate champion from Texas.. So at least he can do martial arts, but I guess he's now a Texan Shaolin.

Is he white as well?
I thought that kid from Tropic Thunder was awesome. Shave him bald!

Right because it would be very difficult to find great English speaking Asian kids in Southern California.

Entertainment Weekly reported Shyamalan offered the roles of Aang to karate-trained Texan Noah Ringer; Sokka to Jackson Rathbone(Twilight); Katara to Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls); and Zuko to Jesse McCartney.
I would be massively surprised if any of the other kids had martial arts backgrounds.

Oh, Asian is easy. But what about Tibettan (Air benders)? Or Inuit (Waterbenders)? I have no idea who the Earthbenders are meant to be, though. Firebenders are Chinese.
