I chanced upon the old Looney Tunes episodes (We dont get em alot in Malta), and I'm just having a nostalgia fest here.
Now I know, especially when it comes to cartoons, a lot of people suffer from "The good ol' days", so, here goes, lets swap some of our "I miss"es

I miss the artistic stylings of Chuck Jones. The man was a one of a kind cartoonist, and the art behind some of my favorite old toons. Duck Amuck (The one where the artist fucks around with Daffy) is maybe my favorite episode of any cartoon ever.
I miss the honest and creative physical comedy of the old Road Runner cartoons.
I miss the biggest asshole on TV - Daffy Duck. And I miss how sorry I used to feel for him when things didnt work out for him. Poor duck just needed some love, yo.
I miss seeing Bugs getting roughed up, I never really liked him.
I miss when jokes were funny for *everyone*, and you didnt have to be aged between x and y to enjoy a program. So few cartoons are viewable by a whole family sitting in front of the TV now-a-days.

I loved bugs! But I did often feel sorry for Daffy and the Coyote. =D

And let's add Mel Blanc to the 'I miss' list. That man could do voices like no other!

God Looney Tunes were so good. I can't even imagine anyone nowadays doing something like What's Opera Doc.

I love Blanc. So many of the voices we're familiar with ARE ONE GUY

And damn I pitied Wile E., I mean, watching Road Runner for me was "AAHHAHAHAHA.... wait wait NO WILE E. NO AHAHAHAHAHAHA.... NO "

No, it's more like nowadays cartoons are made for children and not adults, and so cannot have excessive slapstick violence and satirical-style comedy.

And the cartoons made for adults today aren't necessarily all that great.

You're all crazy, Daffy deserved every bad thing that happened to him. He was pompous and arrogant.

Wil E. Coyote was just a fool, how many times could ACME fail you before you realize it's time to switch companies man? For a super genius he was quite loyal to a failing product.

As for Bugs, the one I grew up with was awesome, he'd hand out an ass kicking usually when he got provoked, it was all fair. Now the old Bugs...yeah he was an asshole, he'd just wake up and go "hmm who am I gonna mess with today?"

Personally I like Avatar: The Last Airbender for watching with a variety of ages.

...but sometimes I find myself missing Inspector Gadget.

Oh, there have been some fantastic cartoons since. Batman, Avatar...and really, Animaniacs was very much a decendant of the old Looney Tunes style (even if it did spiral off into bizarro world in the later seasons). But still, I don't think it's just nostalgia speaking when you look at some of the great Looney Tunes cartoons and wonder why more cartoons aren't aspiring to be as good. Of course, I suppose there were some bad ones, too. Especially early on. Still...

My stance is that these cartoons rocked ass for the simple reason we saw them when WE were young

I guess...but somethings you watch as a kid you come back to later and realize just how shitty it was. Looney Tunes, though, really stands the test of time. That's a mark of quality there.

My dad keeps linking me to looney tunes episodes he finds on youtube.
Wedding of Figaro is one of our favourites... honestly, I can't hear that song anymore without thinking of Bugs rubbing hair oil into fudd's head. And Bugs was totally awesome when he was just being an ass.
Aside from the hilarious musicals, Bugs vs Wile E Coyote rocked the best, I think. Poor Wile E wasn't at his best when dealing with that goddamn roadrunner. Sure he's just trying to stay alive. He's still an evil sadistic buttmunch.

I miss Tiny Toon Adventures. Luckily the DVDs are coming out at the end of the month.

The biggest asshole on TV is Tweety Bird, by leaps and bounds. People act like it's Sylvester who's the bad guy in the situation, but it isn't. At most, he's just doing what cats do. Nope. Tweety is a sociopathic piece of shit wrapped in lispy, cutie-pie clothing.

Also, I'm still a big fan of the old Joe and He-Man cartoons. Sure, they're bad, but to me, they're "good" bad. I was just watching the original animated Transformers movie with my niece and nephew this afternoon. That's some good stuff, too. Although, I always resented that Hot Rod got the Matrix, and became Rodimus Prime. I'm glad that didn't last. How DARE they kill off Optimus Prime!

Though admittedly I still adore Loonie Toons, one thing has changed from my childhood days of giggling over the carnage and general ludicricy.

I'm on the "villain" side now. Seriously. Those so called heroes of the story? The so-called GOOD guys? They're regular asses, they are! I mean, sure, they're all awesome, but poor Wil-E... =( Poor Sylvester...

But seriously. Everyone in that show is CHAOTIC EVIL.

But it was still awesome.

Most iconic Loonie Toons moment for my family is the episode with "RABBIT SEASON!" "DUCK SEASON!" Etc... and then the final sign being "Elmer season". We had a DVD of four seasons or something for a while and my siblings looped that one over and over again. Other than that... not too many cartoons. Veggie Tales (which are still awesome) and Care Bears were our staples. Got into Transformers quite recently and adore them. Why can't cartoons be that cool now? There's a small handful I like! It's not even worth it TO watch TV, I find! I'd watch, what? Mythbusters, Jacob Two Two, Avatar, and Martin Mystery. Ayep.

I miss Loonie Toons. I also secretly admit that I miss Archie Comics before they became a soap opera with the same cartoons repeatedly printed. XP I loved those as a kid! Now... meh. If I'm going to waste money on comics, it's going to be on something WORTH it. (hides behind Death Note manga and Spiderman comics) Why didn't I start reading 'real' comics years ago...

You know what I miss? When animation was animation. It was drawn by a PERSON. I miss 2D animation that MOVED, characters were detailed, they were shaded, they were ROUND. Today it's all static hack and slash drawn pointy people drawn by underpaid Korean studios.

I miss when artists drew BACKGROUNDS. And I miss when comedy was funny. Yeah I could say I miss the old stuff.

Right now I think 2D animation in America is in another dark age. Last time we fell into one was the Hannah Barbara age in the 70's, and thankfully came out in the early 80's thanks to Don Bluth's efforts in Secret of NIMH and the more popular American Tail, which displayed some really dropjaw detailed art alongside also very smooth motion.

Now we're back where we were in the 70's with American animation being shoved back to quickly drawn characters that move little over recycled backgrounds. Sure we've got CGI but there's a clear difference between 2D and 3D art and one can not substitute for the other.

The funny thing is if you show today's kids an old Loony Toons episode they tend to absolutely love it. Classic animation really does stand the test of time.

The toons you get in each collection is somewhat random, but the overall quality of the sets is very good and I suspect they're eventually going to release them all. There's lots of REALLY old ones, too, as far back as Merrie Melodies.

I got these a couple of these off amazon recently and I've been quite happy with them, though I do love my boxsets.
