TuneCore?

Anybody ever heard of this service before?

http://www.tunecore.com/

They seem awfully confident, and they don't seem to be making too-good-to-be-true promises ("get famous for FREE!"), but their pricing system seems a tad high, especially since one can publish a CD on Lulu for free. I guess the trade-off is being on iTunes and all the others they list. I don't know; thoughts?

Read between the lines, they are simply acting as a proxy to iTunes, as opposed to paying for the bandwidth yourself. They probably are going with the overselling service method all mass hosting does. Like for example why this is profitable, CG only has about 10 comics that consume a huge amount of bandwidth (ie, at a loss) compared to the other 8900 that may get anywhere from zero to negligible traffic.

The same process is used on hosting environments like Dreamhost, sell service with the assumption that most people will never use it to it's limit.

Then you get into problems when equipment fails and no money to replace it.

CD baby does the same thing.. and here's the lockdown.

Tunecore charges you twenty dollars more (cd baby asks 9% of sales) for the first year. after that you pay Tunecore makes you pay twenty if you sell or not. so depending on shelf life I suppose.

personally I like CDbaby better, its also better know with the industry, so there's that too.
