...the song.

That should make some people round here happy if they even know or care what that is. :P :) :P

It has certainly changed in the last few years...

I still think the Israeli song should have won. Just because it was THAT crap.

Oh, there're more pressing matters.

Like why Malta gave the UK's terrible song 12 points. Explain! :P

Because Malta is England's little bitch. Yes it really is that simple.

I was pretty pleasantly surprised, specially since officially, this is the first time we are participating. :D I had a pre-exam fever yesterday so I heard of results only in the evening.
Eurovision is made into a big deal here actually, people have always thought of it as a mother of all pop festivals. So yeah, there's some national celebration going on today. Though me and my friends celebrated last year's results as well.

Bob, I'm actually rather surprised that we got so much points from other ex-Yu countries. We generally tend to display our lowest national-chauvinist passions in occasions such is Eurovision. Last year, Croatian public was outraged because Croatian song supposedly had Serbian native musical mothives in it. Not to mention that then Serbia and Montenegro was disqualified because of disputing between Serbia and Montenegro.

edit: Hungary <3

Hungarian singer was actually from Vojvodina, southern part of Serbia with large Hungarian popularion.
Which is why we gave her 12 perhaps.

Because noone else would? Ever? XD

Good to know it's not only North America that's obsessed with shitty pop music contests.

how did Israel win Eurovision? I know I'm leaned geography in an American school, but I'm pretty sure that Israel isn't in Europe.

It's populated by European Jews though...it's considered part of the western world despite it's geographical location.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision#Participation
Eligibility to participate is not determined by geographic inclusion within the continent of Europe, despite the "Euro" in "Eurovision" — nor has it anything to do with the European Union. This explains the inclusion of Israel in the Contest, despite its not being a part of geographical or political Europe. In 1980, Morocco — a North African country — participated in the Contest.
