native americans (or american indians)

-we all work in casinos (its rather silly but I've gotten it a lot)
-we all have hair down to our asses and our skin remains tanned all year long (where are skin is red... well you've seen me)
-In the US the only native american tribe is The cherokee
-we all know the history, culture, and ways of our people (this is slightly true, especially for non-reservation borns.. as we get excited about our culture and do a lot of reading)
-we smoke pot and chew Peyote (err... moving right along)
-no matter your tribe or your peoples ways you know how to raindance.

We Oregonians also live in one giant forest where we catch salmon and frolic with the chipmunks, beavers, grizzly bears, and other forest life.

Also, we have grown gills to adapt to the constant rain. Which is totally NOT true. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just going to go...for a little swim...at 2 in the morning...

Didn't know you were, Phact. Heh. There's a long list of others, I'm sure! People used to complain at the Eiteljorg alot. Don't know if you've encountered any of these, but it drove some of my coworkers crazy-

This thread has taught me some names of American places I have never heard of before.

I think the only American places I've heard of, actually, are California, Washington, New York, LA, and Rhode Island. Oh! And Texas. (And I just learnt Missouri).

The only American stereotype I know is that everyone in Europe hates them. And well, yeah. The only thing that can stop people from bitching about the Irish or the English or the French or the Polish is to hear an American accent.

The Sioux are a tribe of the past, aren't they? Or was that bit of Dances With Wolves wrong?

I can think of...the Iroquois? Mohicans...they're gone, except that little feller who lives in the mansion with his butler... Mohawks, are they gone too?

The only other American Indian tribe names I can think of are the Poohawks and the Kickapoos, but they're from the comic Tumbleweeds.

I had a whole big post about the tribes down here in Arizona and the internet ate it. We spent a lot of time learning about the prehistoric tribes like the Hohokam and the Anasazi in school, and the Tohono O'odham reservation is right smack on the Tucson city limits.

But I couldn't tell you the tribes of any Indians I know because they've never introduced themselves to me that way. The only people I can think of who have ever told me what tribe they were a part of were actually white people of the sort that wear dreamcatcher earrings because they found out they're 1/16th Cherokee.

The person I work with in regards to my integration kids is Dhurga Aboriginal, from the southeast coast of New South Wales. We speak some of her native language in the room. The cool thing is that she's learning it at the same time because her family are researching the tribal lifestyle and traditions.

Dhurga is actually pronounced 'Dorriga'.

I have to go into my partial Italian stereotypes too.

I can't talk without moving my hands (True, I do sound effects often too)

I speak Spanish (This one is piss easy)

But...my husband really is part Cherokee.... Honest!

The Sioux are still very much around as are the Mohawk, who are part of the Iroquois League along with several other tribes in Canada and the US.

I know the apache, the navajo, and the hopi have reservations in the state, there's another tribe or two I'm forgetting though. I actually like arizona a lot. its got some very beautiful places.. ya know if ya like deserts and rock formations.
