I'm pretty sure it has nudity in like the fifth episode when they arrest a guy at a cafe.

Ok, I must be totally unphased by this kind of stuff because I rarely remember it. Make sure you check the ratings and stuff on anything I suggest before you watch it...

HOLY!!!!!
So...many...posts...can't...write...down...titles...fast...enough!!!!
seriously, Thanks for all the help, guys. I don't think I could watch this much stuff If I had all year.
Could I maybe have a short list of the creme de la creme, please? Y'know, based off of awesomeness and commercial availability?
Thanks.

Um... this IS the creme de la creme. This is only a teeny tiny fraction of all the anime and manga we COULD suggest.
Everyone has their favorites. You're not going to get the same answers from everyone. So just browse through so summaries somewhere and pick the ones that sound interesting to you.

It really depends on your location and your interests. There's a lot of 'good' anime depending on what kind of anime you're into. If you like comedy, there's a lot of it out there, but if you like serious drama, or action, there's a good set for that too. Normally they all try to fit a particular theme. As for commercial availability, like I said, it depends on where you live. You could always try to order things online and buy them, but you plan to go out to your local video store, expect a very limited selection unless it's a store that specializes in anime. Best Buy tends to have a good selection, but you won't find any of the older stuff there.

Anime is good or bad depending on the standards you apply to it.
If you're looking for strongest animation, you'd probably go with things like Paranoia Agent, or the Ghost in the Shell series.
Story, comedy, action, are all separate categories, really; some have better animation than others.

For ultimate cheapness here are some youtubed first eps, most of these are unliscneced so the commerical availability is nil (which is why we can watch them here)...
Sexy Commando Masaru San Okay, despite having the word sexy in the title, there is no nudity here... in fact there is very little sexy. This show is good for random acts of wtf? I love it!
Ueki's Law I didn't want to like this fighting anime, but the show wouldn't let me.
<a href="
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbrFOPdY ... >Bleach this show is about laundry.... yup... see it now before the Adult Swim it in the fall...
There's a start for you... if cheap is an issue.

Movie. Lame plot, horrible art and shallow characters. Dragonball Z had better production value. And I hate Dragonball Z.
I must respectifully and heartily disagree with you. I found the characters anything but shallow. Tetsuro grows from being a who only wants revenge, learning from the people he meets during his journey, into a man who wants to change the course of the future. The art, I'll grant you, isn't the best, but it was made in the fnucking 70s, cut it some slack

Yes, there is nudity.
Briefly in Mission 2, and also in mission 3

And in Death, did you mean the scene with Gendo's Hand while he's talking to Unit 01?
I assumed he meant the "hand full of baby batter" scene.

That's not in Death. That's in both Re-Birth and End of Evangelion.
Oh, your 999 statement reminded me:
I was watching Speed Racer the other say, and yes, the animation quality at times was crap, but at other times they did some really nice stuff that you don't really see today.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor is one of the greatest anime EVAR. So are the OVA's. Awesome Awesome Awesome dub. Better than Cowboy Bebop's to me. And Tylor's War, ^_^ . Always do what's right, regardless of the concequences. I actually BOUGHT this entire series and the ovas. Its a short list of anime I've actually bought. After watching the whole thing in japanese. Its that good.
Kino's Journey. I watched this after Faub said one of my comics reminded him of this. Beautiful art. Awesome story. Dubbed Hermes sucks, rest are fine.
Azumanga Daioh. Great dub also. Cuuuuute.
Full Moon wo Sagishite. This is what Sailor Moon would have been had Serena caught throat cancer and wanted to be a singer. The similarities are eerie... I like the opening songs.
Onegai Teacher. This series made me feel dirty to watch it. There's nothing bad, no nudity, but it just makes me feel like a horrible person, kind of like reading The Lounge. I still watched it though. No reading the Lounge though. The dub is actually pretty good.
Chobits. This also made me feel like a horrible person. I got too sick to watch it around episode 16. Finally finished it a month or so ago.
Video Girl Ai. Also made me feel bad. Good ending though.
Crono Crusade. Depressing. Still loved it though. About the only anime I've seen to not break its own rules.
Ah my Goddess. I actually love this series. One of the few of its genre that doesn't kill me on the inside.
Ichigo 100%. BLEEEEHH. This show sickened me more than any other harem anime I've watched. The author of the manga must be a horrible person to do that stuff to the girls. It not ending in a ritualistic group murder/suicide was just wrong to me. The hope for that ending was the only thing that kept me reading... I don't think the anime ever finished where the manga did. Its doing ova's or something.
Gunbuster 2 / Diebuster / Aim for the Top 2. Episodes only come out once every few months. Love the opening song. Love the story. Wish it didn't take a year for it to get to episode 6.

Same can be said of Science Ninja Team Gatchman (akako Battle of the Planets, akako G-Force) Great show... but very dated animation.

He speeks the truth. A few deus ex machinas and plothole-ish occurences, but otherwise good movies, I think. I can only comment on the first two, though (the first is probably the better) -- I haven't been able to find the third movie like, anywhere...
Or any of the original manga. Closest I've gotten is the first four volumes of the second series...
Anyway, I'd say Trigun and Cowboy Bebop in terms of availability. Both are fairly popular.

Are you kidding? It was hilarious. I mean seriously, just the fact that they're running around in midieval times with a state of the art tank is reason enough to watch it. I mean sure, the plot wasn't exactly deep, but I thought it was very funny.
Oh yeah, two more:
Rune Soldier
Ruin Explorers

I've read the first few volumes of the 'Those Who Hunt Elves' manga, and it's pretty funny. And I wanted to see Ruin Explorers since it's got a catgirl in it
I just watched Spriggan last night and that may be up your alley. Judeo-christian imagry, lots of violence, and no sex and/or nudity whatsoever.

Do you know what this statement makes you? It makes you my personal hero. There is no one I know (because the guy I would hold in contention for this title died in January, Jeff Thompson... one of the coolest guys you'll never know) who is a bigger Tylor fan than me. Check the end of the OAV credits... you'll see a special thanks section there, before I was Skylark King, I was New Wave Dave...
I founded OhayoCon way back when it was still concidered a good con, at that time it was also called 'the Irresponsible Convention' mostly due to the amount of Tylor we had there, screenings of the OAv before it was released, we had character designer Tomohiro Hirata there (Hanging above my bed is a HUGE drawing he did for me of Tylor and Azalyn... squeee)... gave away something like 20 autographed Tylor Box Sets (this was before the DVD). I wish more people would watch this pehnominal show.
Tylor just simply rocks, period. That's it, you need to know nothing else.
