I approve. These people always try to over-improve classic games to the point that they lose their feel. I'd like to play it. Should be fun.

I never played Nintendo in the good old days. I had a Commodore 64 (for which I did manage to get Great Giana Sisters before it was yanked from the shelves for being a blatant Mario ripoff).

Woah I'm not saying that old school Mario sucked, quite the contrary is true.
However the world has seen more than enough ports of the game and its time for a new transformation.
Like another Super Mario Brothers to Super Mario Brothers 3 leap. That would rock.
You know, just the Tanooki suit would suffice. I loved the Tanooki suit.

I myself, will probly never touch this game. I like 2 types of games. The first person kill anything that moves games, and the classic games.

The game is intentionally supposed to have a "retro" feel and be a bit of a throw-back to the original Mario Bros. in some ways.
Oh, and like how you want more new features...and the examples you give are the Takooni suit and the big shoe...two old features.
For the record, if you want new power-ups it's got the Super mushroom that turns you as tall as the screen, the blue mini-mushroom with turns you even smaller than regular mario and you can wear a blue turtle shell and spin around the place.
Plus you can do wall jumps and some other more acrobatic stunts that were introduced in the 3D Mario games.

True old, but in all the Mario spinoffs and sequals those power ups never came back, where as wall jumping has been quite popular as of late.

Okay, seriously now, why are the stereotypical Japanese people talking like streotypical italians?

That's one thing SMB3 has over every other Mario game. There were so many different powers that you could play every level of the game at least five times and it'd be a different experience for each run-through. The newer games don't have that kind of variety. They're not bad games, but they just don't have the same feel.
I dunno. Right now I'm in the middle of Mario & Luigi for the GBA. That's actually got a decent amount of variety, plus the interesting proposition that if you're timing is right, you could make it through a turn-based RPG without taking any damage. Not that I've been able to do that.

They should make a Mario fighter game. Only instead of having various martial art-type attacks, all the characters slap like girls.
Peach would be the most powerful character.
Or, possibly, Luigi.

Being the adventure gamer, I like anything that's VGA or above. I even like the pixely look. Even SVGA games were excellent, but I don't think that genre worked well with 3D. So when 3D became a trend, they slowly died out.
In any case, technical things are not a deciding thing on whether I'll like the game or not.

Supposedly there's yet another 2D Mario platformer coming too...
...not many people noticed with all the Wii and DS talk, but Super Paper Mario for the Gamecube this holiday season! Looks really neat and stylish too...plus Bowser is a regular playable character.

You mean "furry mario"?
That was always pretty fucked up. Same thing with the frog suit. Looked like he was being swallowed by a horrid green monster.
One of my favorites was Super Mario World. When I was a kid, that game could take weeks if not months to finish. But now that I'm older and, hopefully, wiser, it only takes a day to finish.

there should've been a part where Link comes in and kicks Mario's butt for stealing his whistle.
