While y'all's concern for my and Kat's safety is appreciated, it's also thoroughly unnecessary. I lived the vast majority of my life on a farm complete with an entire mess of cats (nearly sixty at one count) as well as a number of other animals, all given free reign outside and with immediate access to a forest right across the road full of other kinds of far wilder animals.
I know better than most the dangers posed by the various physical diseases and mental problems that both stray and domestic outside animals are subject to. I know what actions to take if something untoward does happen and am prepared to undertake those actions if necessary. This is also actually the fourth or fifth stray cat that we've given a temporary home to since we've started living together, so neither of us are inexperienced at this. If there appeared to be any chance that a stray cat seemed likely to actually try to bite us - any chance at all - then we would not approach that cat under any circumstances much less allow it into our apartment.
So, I would appreciate it if all talk of rabies et al was entirely replaced by gurgles of delight at how cute teh kitty is from now on. Thenc yew.

Yeah, I addopted tenths of cats in my life and never had...
Used to have a couple of ducks who thought they were cats. Or thought the cats were other ducks. We were never really clear on which.
In either case, they spent most of their time following the cats around, eating cat food, and oiling the cats' backs. It was the weirdest damn thing to look out the window and see rain beading up and rolling off cat fur.
