I would disagree - my statement makes no mention of judging humanity nor the good and bad things they have done. It only talks about the population of humans (also called "Humanity") and the fraction of that number that you are.RemusShepherd wrote:Less than that. If we judge humanity, we have to judge its history, and all the good and bad things done by people who are now long dead.rkolter wrote:Just remember your average person is only 1/6,000,000,000th of humanity as a whole.
six billion or so living humans = total population of Humanity
You: 1/6,000,000,000th of humanity.

This one [mentally handicapped] person I knew lived one block away from 12 churches in any direction, It was freaky. It was like the churches were built around her to keep her sealed or something. <_<Gengar003 wrote:Churches aren't like that around where I live. Though seriously (yes in victoria there are 12 chuches all within 2 cityblocks of each other), I've lost my respect for certain classes of people based on a small percentatge of people who present themselves as representing the whole in very ignorant situations. Take for example:
Homeless - After a while you realize that these people have been on the street for months, if not years and it's the same people. We do have programs and shelters for them, giving them money is just encouraging them to not help themselves.
Christians - I'm not sure which sect is worse, but it's the ones that paint themselves as representing all christians and then go around doing anti-homosexual and right-to-life crap using violence or politics. There is protesting, and then there is crossing the line by shooting people they don't like... where did "thou shall not murder" go?
Muslims - In the same vein as the christians, once again I can't help but go "WTF" whenever the media paints muslims as evil when they refer to terrorist activities. These aren't the same muslims that are living inside the country, yet it gives the domestic muslims the impression that "everyone is out to get them" and it gives "everyone else" the impression that the muslims are out to get them. Take a look, when was the last time a suicide bomber blew something up inside the USA?
"idiots in general" - And this is where I'll agree with anyone who has worked in retail. That small population that returns crap at the customer service desk, or calls a call center or wants their computer serviced and is totally disrespectful is only a VERY SMALL part of humanity, so yes it's going to look like everyone you have to talk to is blazing idiot, but that is only the X% of the population that think they have the right to be a jackass, and really do need to be put in their place by some corperate policy chages. I really go "WTF' when some corperations bend over backwards to keep "valuable" customers that are really ripping off the corperation, and then do nothing to keep loyal customers. (See "Why can't I get a free cell phone, I've been a loyal customer, how come only new customers get one".) The only way the corperations are going to change is if people stop buying from the bad ones. Unfortunately "people looking for the best price" frequently are the same ones that break stuff and try to claim it didn't work in the first place, they don't see anthing wrong with blaming you.
I'm not going to sit around and go "I hate X,Y and Z people", no I just stop believing that any good will come of supporting them.
So going back to the original topic. Baby in bag, floating in the water, baby survives. For every baby found alive, I can assure you there are probably hundreds that are not in developing countries. This only made news because the baby survived. Had it not, it would just be another number in some police stations fileing cabinet. Yes the mother is an idiot for one having a child and two tossing it in the water, but I bet most of you can't step into her shoes and figure out what was going through her mind. Probably "omg I can't possibly care or feed this child", She should have thought of that back when she became pregnant.
Now pardon the rant, this is just one of those topics that is blown out of proportions by the media. I'm sure if you look in your local paper there is something you didn't read or overlooked that is much more important.
Like ... 3 billion to improve roads in BC, premier sez "time to stop driving and start transiting/biking if we don't want to be the los angelas of the north" ... or even the canada "72 miners rescued from potash mine". It's the media's love of "omg how bad can people get" spin that makes people think that only the worst in humanity is present and this attitude gets taken with us to work and becomes a self-fulfilling phrophecy.

9/11/2001 inside the US. Last week, if you mean the last time a suicide bomber targetted Americans. A touch insensitive there Kisai.Kisai wrote:Take a look, when was the last time a suicide bomber blew something up inside the USA?
Just to note - I never anticipated this to become a big moralistic thread. I just thought it was pretty dumb of a woman who when accused of trying to kill her baby said, "I couldn't afford to care for it so I gave it to homeless people." When homeless people are even less likely to be able to afford to care for it.
That was the stupidity I was talking about. I assumed people already knew throwing a baby into a lake was stupid. This was stupidity on top of stupidity.

Well, we need better examples of outright stupidity.
Have you heard about the door-to-door tattoo salesman?
Of course, if you're looking for pure lack of intellect, you can't overlook Paris Hilton.
But people who read FARK already know how stupid human beings are. Collectively, even moreso. No need to berate them about it.

Ah, guess I was just a lil bit cranky last night. I'm having HUGE problems with my Aunt (namely, her treating me like something icky and slimy that had no right to come out of HER sister and needs to go away as quickly as possible.)
And I did see that bit of lovely stupidity. If only her stupidity had been directed at herself...she'd be up for a Darwin on that count, defenately.

Yeah, but it has to be along the lines of physical castration. Being so dumb that any sane man wouldn't even touch her without a few passes from a geiger counter won't cut it.hollowghoul wrote:Actually, it is sufficient to remove every possibility of reproduction.
