Children will read: "Imagine that a man dangles a piece of candy in front of you. ...As you grab the candy, a huge metal hook stabs through your hand and you're ripped off the ground. You fight to get away, but it doesn't do any good... That would be an awful trick to play on someone, wouldn't it?"
I'm convinced the folks at PETA won't stop until we're all worshipping animals.
Just remember, salad is murder, too. Sure the lettuce doesn't feel the pain of being ripped from the earth, only to be sliced open and chopped up, but does that make it any less wrong??
That being said, I have no problem with vegans or vegetarians. Unless they try and force me to be one.

Heed these words: I do not draw. Photos if you're lucky.
It's an animal, it's got no rights whatsoever, and it's going to die anyway, if not eaten by something else, of sickness or old age. Might as well kill it now and keep ourselves alive and well-fed for a bit longer.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.
Not only does Daddy kill it, but he cooks it, and serves it to me on a platter. PETA needs to get over it. Animals taste delicious, and I'd be damned if I stopped eating meat cuz it's inhumane to the animals...puh-leeze!!
Imagine Thanksgiving dinner without turkey?
Breakfast without sausage, ham or bacon?
No fast food at all!
I greatly respect and cheer attempts to end torture and unnecessary killing of animals. But PETA goes overboard with it, it goes for shock tactics which puts of many and, I think, works against them.
See, because of extreme feminists, feminism got a bad name and made people twitch at the mention of the word. It only helped people against women rights have something to point at.
Extreme religious types made a lot more atheists than anyone who's actually promoting atheism did.
PETA made people laugh at everyone who is fighting for animal rights, regardless of whether they're as idiotic as PETA is. Their way of acting made them a laughing stock, and together with them, the entire animal rights movement.

I was going to make a witty and intelligent comment like this one, but then McDuffies beat me to it, leaving me to only say "Ditto".

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.

Yeah, PETA does tend to go way overboard on issues and their propaganda leaves a lot to be desired.
And Senshi, just because they eventually end up on our plates doesn't mean that we get to treat them however we want before killing them. All animals should be treated humanely, it doesn't matter whether they're going to be used as food or not.

I recently read an essay that was claiming that such organisations were forced to such techniques because they get very little news time, so in order to be noticed they go too far. The text was illustrated with statistics of screen time of various organisations (including political parties that, of course, get much more time) on Brittish tv.
Thinking about it, it makes sence. When an organizetion protests against fur, that's hardly a news. On busy day, no news report is going to cover it, and in papers they're not going to get a prominent place. On the other hand, if the same organization gets celebrities to get naked, not only it's going to get more cover (if just for the heck of publishing photos), but people are going to notice it more likely, just like they'd notice an agressive commercial.
I guess they think "No publicity is bad publicity". I personally always hated that moto, it created more trash than any Hollywood studio.
Entirely IMHO, my overall impression of animal rights comes down to this:
Animals have no rights. None. Period. They are property, our property, and should be treated as such. That we as a species shy away from watching the actual visceral suffering of another living creature and so treat our animals with any level of kindness does not imply animals have a right to that kindness.
I, like most humans, do not like to watch another living thing suffer. Thus, I believe animals should be treated humanely. However, I put the needs and desires of humanity far above that of any animal, and accept fully that we will kill and consume animals, use animals for testing products that we need or want, and will experiment on animals in many ways that would be tantamount to torture and murder if done to humans.
And I accept that. The world is not as black and white as PETA would have us believe.
::edit:: Just to point out, this philosophy allows entirely for vegetarians. As humans, you too have the right to decide how you will treat the animals of the world. I totally respect that.

I am an advocate of the eating of animals and the using animals for scientific research, but i do believe that these animals should be killed as humanely as possible.
As for fast food... 1) get rid of all of it 2) are you really sure that's coming from the animal they tell you it is, or if it's even from an animal at all?
