Werewolf, the party game

Post by MERBman »

There's this party game, yeah? It's called Werewolf. It's lots of fun. 5-12 players.
Here's how you play. <-That's a link.

It's hella fun. Hella. I'm currently addicted. It's a game of lies and deception, how can I not like it?

The best part is it can be played on IRC!
So I've set up a room on the server, at #weregame, if anyone's interested.

I mean, there's also a good chance nobody but me cares, in which case I'll just sit there by myself. But this is nothing new, anyway, so no one has to worry about that contingency.

As I'm running the channel, the host (Wolfbotty) may not be there.

If he is, and I'm not, controls are simple:
To start a game, "!Start"
To join a game during the joining period, "/msg wolfbotty join"
To vote, "/msg wolfbotty vote [name]"
To kill (when werewolf), "/msg wolfbotty kill [name]"
To see (when seer), "/msg wolfbotty see [name]"

Have fun with it.

What is it about games like these that involve killing the other players that is so appealing (to me)?

This game sounds completely awesome. I'm so doing this the next time I have a get together with my friends.

And the were-wolf theme is definitely cooler than the mafia theme.

Just to clarify, since I'm headed off, to anyone who uses IRC:

The channel #weregame will be open all night, and the operator bot will be in there, functioning (hopefully), so if anyone wants to play (and can find a minimum 4 others), it's all set up for you.

I know of another game which is similar to this but yet very simple...Its called Killer- Detective...

We need the n number of cards for it( n=number of players)...
there should be one card named "Detective" and another "Killer"
The rest of them are "Victims"
As the cards are shuffled and distributed...
Only the detective reveals himself...And then the game starts..
The killer aims at killing each of his victims by winking an eye...
The detective should identify the killer before there are only 3-4 people left.( this depends on the number of people playing.)
The killer or the detective get 1000 points depending on who wins...
The victims get 800 each...After some games...the person with teh most number of points wins.

Best played with 6-12 players
The real creativity lies in hiding your sources.

Commercial Editions of Werewolf
[...] * Lupus in Tabula, from daVinci Games. Also has a bunch of character cards.
Played many times.
There's even the werehamster that eats the wereolves.

I played a game called "Murder" in my acting class. My teacher used it as an ice breaker. He made every stand up in an open area and close their eyes. Then he selected one person to be the murderer. I happened to get the lucky honor. :D Then we had about 10 seconds to walk around the room, and whenever we passed someone we had to look them straight in the eyes until we passed them completelyand couldn't see them anymore (this also helps prevent people from looking absently around the room and easily spotting the murderer. The murderer kills people by winking at them with one eye during the staring match. That person must walk an additional 5 more steps and leaves the floor (so that it is not obvious who the murderer is. No one talks during this time. After the ten seconds is up, the moderator (my teacher) stops everyone, and they vote one person off the floor. This person then reveals if he/she was the murderer. If not, the game keeps going. Another ten seconds pass and the murderer continues to kill off the class. Eventually there is only a few people left and the murderer is caught! I got the class of 20 down to 4 people! :D Probably works best with 15-20 people; ideal situation for a class.

Honestly I really liked the basic premise behind "Underworld" it was just so badly executed. The idea of Vampire and Werewolf mafias at war would be cool, and then imagine a romeo and juillet scenario on top of that, only well written and acted!
