I'm glad I went to a big university, then. The Neko wrote:
It's always fun leaving a class and having people pull you aside to tell you specifically why you aren't fitting in to the department clique because you're moving up to a higher level than the rest of them, which apparently is "showing off".
Unfortunately, Im starting grad school in a few weeks at NYU, and my entering class only has 30 students. A lot of them though, according to my friend who is in her second year, are going to be pretty snobby (and I can tell that one girl in particular- she went to Hahvard- is going to be problematic).
She also told me that I'll have a hard time there b/c I'm not only from CA, but from L.A. Apparently they don't like the way we dress when we go to class nor do they like the casual manner in which we present ourselves. She told me she got some shit for wearing jeans and a t-shirt to lectures and seminars.

I've gotten a lot of shit from people for being from California (the mocking type, that you do just to mess with people). It get's even worse if I let slip that I'm more specifically from San Francisco.Jen_Babcock wrote:...She also told me that I'll have a hard time there b/c I'm not only from CA, but from L.A. Nope. I'm 17 now. Since Aug. 12. College is okay, and yes, it's much better than high school. More freedom. However, I have alot of responsibilites as well, and homework, so far, is a bitch. But I'll get use to it. Eventually.Nicotine wrote:Yay for you! college...I can't wait to go to college...high school sucks. How are you in college anyway? Aren't you 16?
If you want to get out of high school early, just do like I did, and graduate early. Just make sure your GPA is pretty good before you do.
I've been truely thinking of doing that, because high school is utterly mizerable =__=. When did you decide to do it? It must be really excite *_*. You know what your going to major in yet? I've got a 6.5 out of 7 now, btw.prettysenshi2k6 wrote:Nope. I'm 17 now. Since Aug. 12. College is okay, and yes, it's much better than high school. More freedom. Well, if you're seriously considering it, go to your class counselor and talk to them about it. Make sure you have all your required credits and such. That's important. I'm majoring in Nursing. I love art, but let's be honest, there isn't that much money in the field unless you're the creme de le creme, ya know? I'll always make my art, just not for a living.Nicotine wrote:I've been truely thinking of doing that, because high school is utterly mizerable =__=. When did you decide to do it? And by 6.5, is that you're GPA, cuz GPAs only go up to a 5.0 don't they?
In my school district, your GPA is counted up to 7.0. Why? I don't know. They just do things differently down here.rkolter wrote:Given that straight A's only give you a 4.0, I dunno how you're getting 5.0 OR 7.0

If you get straight As you can still have above a 4.0 (though I'm not sure about fives and sixes) b/c AP classes are weighed more heavily- you get one extra point, meaning if you get an A, that counts for 5, and if you get a B, that couts for 4.rkolter wrote:Given that straight A's only give you a 4.0, I dunno how you're getting 5.0 OR 7.0

Ahh. See, where I live, AP/K/H courses are 7 points for A's, 6 for B's and so on. In regular courses, it's 6 points for A's, ect.Jen_Babcock wrote:If you get straight As you can still have above a 4.0 (though I'm not sure about fives and sixes) b/c AP classes are weighed more heavily- you get one extra point, meaning if you get an A, that counts for 5, and if you get a B, that couts for 4.rkolter wrote:Given that straight A's only give you a 4.0, I dunno how you're getting 5.0 OR 7.0

Damn, people use a whole lot of systems. There's the 4.0 standard (but that slaps the AP people in the face). My high school had 4.3/4.8 weighed. The letter point of 4.0 with a +.5 if it was AP and +/-.33 for +/- grades.
Now that I'm in college, the gpa is 4.0 standard.

Just as an aside... I have never been asked what my GPA was in an interview. As long as I have the degree, or can talk the talk, things have worked out just fine for me.

That's the same w/ my college. But I know law schools add more points if you get an A+ (this is when they're reviewing your application and checking out your gpa).DarkMagician wrote:Damn, people use a whole lot of systems. Hah. How did I know this would happen. That roommate of mine that I mention earlier? She moving out. Heck she didn't even tell me until I came back from class and saw the tv she brought with her in its storage box. I felt a little bad, though. We barely talked, and now she's leaving. But oh well, I have the whole dorm to myself now, and it's only September. I have this baby from now til May.

I was asked my GPA exactly one time - during my very first interview for my very first job in the industry. Even then they pretty much asked it as a formality. Heck, I don't even have my degree yet. And once I have it, the pay raise is a standard 25%. The document is really the only important part anymore.Warren wrote:Just as an aside... I have never been asked what my GPA was in an interview. And my college incidentally, has minuses and plusses for all the letter grades except no A+... so if you really are the best in your class, you can only ever achieve an A. But you can sure get an A-...

THey'll probably stick you w/ another roommate sometime this semester/quarter (whatever academic calander you're on). If you're lucky, you won't get a roomie 'till spring (or possibly ever, depending on how big/crowded your college is).prettysenshi2k6 wrote:Hah. How did I know this would happen. Regardless, enjoy that big room!

Don't feel bad. My first roommate moved out before we had even moved in. And she didn't tell me, either. I'm thinking my emails scared her away...prettysinshi2k6 wrote:Hah. Oh, and my high school didn't have weighted grades, and it sucked, because the only classes I got less than A's in were AP and College-in-the-Schools classes.
