It makes perfect sense. Why hang around people who reinforce your bad habits? Just because she knew he was a user going into the relationship, doesn't mean she can't change her mind and say "Hey, this was a bad idea." There's nothing hypocritical about trying to protect yourself, even if you're not doing a perfect job of it.
