I head down to Japan Town and grab some boxes of Pocky every now and then. Men's Pocky (heh, took me a while to try that) goes great with coffee. It's also very addicting.

They were originally called 'Chocoteck' when it was introduced in the sixties. They changed the name to Pocky, because the name was more appealing. Yay for Japanese onomatopaeias. The Neko wrote:They're named after the Japanese onomatopoeia they create when you bite into them.mcDuffies wrote:It doesn't sound very Japanese: "Pocky sticks"?
They shoulda named them "Hawashi sticks", or "Mizushima sticks" or something like that.

Hey, now, Not that I deny being a nerd... (anyone IN this forum is, almost by definition, a nerd) but I like pocky for it's yummy goodness and its simplicity. I'm all for Peppridge Farm Milanos, and Ben & Jerry are close to my heart, but sometimes you want something light and yummy and fun to snack on. I have no particular affinity for random japanese snacks because they're IN in some geek chic way.Jackhass wrote:

And anyone who says differently trying to defend Pocky is wrong.
Pocky is just cheap wafer cookie. If you like that, then you will like them. They are pretty good dipped in Nutella but not as good as stick pretzels in that regard. (Chocolate and salt were made for each other.)

You forgot webbed feet and poisoned spurs and a rubber body, but otherwise you got the platypus down pretty well. Here's some trivia...when the first stuffed speciman was shipped to England, everyone thought it was a hoax. That guy wrote:Technically, you're not a foreigner unless you GO to a different country. *Also I'm sorry for calling your beloved Koala a "Koala Bear" that's just how I was raised, I know they aren't bears but it's just what I've called them as a child.

Yeah, but those can be found in the plain ol' US, too. My grandparents used to have troubles with them in their 'backyard' (they live on the gulf of Mexico).
They're a little less dangerous than that octopus. You can definitely go into anaphylactic shock if you're stung, but that's more of a scenario for if you have an allergic reaction or if you got nabbed by a ton of its stinging cells. A lot of the resources for treating Man-O-War stings say "Oh, just run it under fresh water for 15 minutes blah blah it'll just hurt like a bitch, but you'll likely be fiiine."
As long as you're not allergic and you don't try the usual methods for jellyfish stings (urine, vinegar), then their stings aren't necessarily lethal. ...With that blue-ringed octopus, a couple minutes pass, you're paralyzed, and then you die. >_>
SO YEAH, POCKY IS PRETTY...GOOD, EH? I don't like Pocky.

Where on earth do you buy your Pocky? I found it at Wal Mart for like $1.78 a box. 5 bucks? Don't buy it at specialty stores, they just jack up the price because they can.
And yes, most of Pocky's popularity is because it's huge with the Anime crowd, I'll admit that. But I like it because it's good. I got some not too long ago. But then again I've never been huge on sweets. So it's good for people that just want something that tastes good without having to deal with a 'death by chocolate' meal. Plus, I think they're a cute snack. Cause it adds personality to the person that eats it.
It's like Peanut Butter Cups and Oreo's. People eat pocky differently, and it tells a lot about the type of person. Some just chow down on the whole stick. Some will just kinda suck the chocolate off while they hold it in their mouths, and some just nibble on it from time to time.
...But there's no wrong way to eat Pocky.
Oh, and on the topic of deadly animals in Austraila, my dad is from there and he's told me that I think 9 of the 10 most deadliest spiders are all in Austriala.
You know, with all the natural hazards that place has, it's actually not that surprising that a guy like Steve Irwin actually exists. I think being able to fight off the local fauna (And possibly flora) is a requirement for living down there.
