As far as how much of my athleticism I've lost, I really notice it. Course, without the 4 hours of training a day it's hard to maintain the stamina needed for marathons
.
All are welcome to join the fun.

A wire weenie, eh? I'll be happy to trade insults any time you like!CapitanG wrote:I am honor-bound to insult you and your silly SCA-going mannerisms.prettydragoon wrote:I do SCA heavy combat. It's a lot of fun. Running around in a suit of armour and hitting each other with sticks.
As a point of clarification, I've been fencing for some time, which is a very good workout in some rather obscure muscle groups. Plus, holding up an Epee for a fifteen-point bout gets rather tiresome.
Nope, I rowed it. 31 miles!PeppermintAfterlife wrote:Have you ever ran a marathon, War?
I would, on the condition I get to use both arms.Warren wrote:*must remember not to challenge War to arm-wrestling contest*
I speak mainly from the experience of the local SCA chapter, which is composed of insane people. Insane in the bad way, mind you, because I like good insane.prettydragoon wrote:A wire weenie, eh? All martial arts are very good exercise for both body and soul. Also, you get to look down your nose at all the other martial arts.
At least you don't live off of Hot Pockets and Pop-Tarts...Col wrote:I was a swimmer throughout elementary, junior, and high school, being on summer and winter teams, and then the high school team. My specialty was long distance swimming like the 500 yd. and 200 yd. freestyles (the 500 is swimming one length of the pool twenty times, and the 200 is eight times.) Even made captain of the team senior year, was voted MVP for that year, and was featured in the local paper as the athlete of the week. (Bragging? ME???) I was 6'5" and 160 lbs. all through high school.
Then college came. I couldn't do swimming cuz of classes, and it was a small campus, so I ended up gaining 40 lbs. I've got little to no stamina, and I think my wife could beat me up (and I'm twice her height and weight!) Yeah... I've really fallen off the path of healthiness.
Ha! My right arm's enough....*wink**wink*Toxic wrote:I would, on the condition I get to use both arms.Warren wrote:*must remember not to challenge War to arm-wrestling contest*
what's wrong with hot pockets and pop-tarts? they are an essential part of the college student diet!!PeppermintAfterlife wrote:At least you don't live off of Hot Pockets and Pop-Tarts...Col wrote:I was a swimmer throughout elementary, junior, and high school, being on summer and winter teams, and then the high school team. Don't forget about ramen noodles! those rockgrabmygoblin wrote: what's wrong with hot pockets and pop-tarts? they are an essential part of the college student diet!!
Oh, nothing really. It's just that I know someone I'm not very fond of who litteraly eats nothing else because the concept of cooking anything as simple as an egg is beyond him. So everytime I see hot pockets or pop tarts, I become filled with an irrational bitterness. Col knows him too (sort of), so it was like a reference of sorts.grabmygoblin wrote:what's wrong with hot pockets and pop-tarts? they are an essential part of the college student diet!!
Hey, at least you can bench something. I have problems with the bar.PeppermintAfterlife wrote:I'd still lose to War in an arm wrestling contest if I used both arms. All my muscle in in the legs. I have nothing on the upper body, as I go no higher that 60 lbs on the bench press thingie.
At my best I was able to bench once or twice 100lbs. But most of my strength is in my legs.PeppermintAfterlife wrote:I'd still lose to War in an arm wrestling contest if I used both arms. Ah. I'm fortunate in that I've not yet come across that sort of people in person.CapitanG wrote:I speak mainly from the experience of the local SCA chapter, which is composed of insane people. Insane in the bad way, mind you, because I like good insane.
That said, I do enjoy random beatings.
Say, that's a good idea for our next membership drive. We'll go beat up random people and stuff membership forms in their purses and/or pockets!ekspiulo wrote:All you SCA folks are doing it all wrong. The main problem with organizations like those and their events is that participation is consentual.
