Contest - $60 in real gemstones as a prize [NO MORE ENTRIES]
Here's something for you...
Do a drawing of something related to outer space. This is pretty much wide open - planets, stars, how the big bang might have looked, the moon drawn as a big cheese, futuristic spaceship launching, imagine how a space colony would look... whatever, so long as it's related in some way to outer space.
Any style, any medium, but you have to be able to scan it and give us a link to your entry in this thread.
The only other qualifier is that the image should be reasonably work safe.
Provided we get at least 10 entries, we'll have a vote in a seperate thread. The winning entry gets $60 in your choice of rubies, sapphires, emeralds, citrine, topaz, star diopside, etcetera... basically, whatever you like that I have in stock. I'll ship internationally if required.
I'll put the winning entry up on Reasoned Cognition and in the "stuff" archives along with a link to your comic and info about the contest you won.
Things like this need a deadline... how about by Midnight January 21st? That's two weeks from this posting.

I'm with you. The cameras I installed last time are still working, surprisingly, and now that he's back from the honeymoon I'll be able to determine his and his wife's schedules.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Actually, someone beat you to it. The color of the universe on average is a yellowish beige.Spriteville, USA wrote:image...
Not too much money no. Just a gemstone business during an economic recession. The inventory is already paid for, and my wholesale cost on the stones is damn low. I'm not out much by holding the contest, and I can claim it as a tax-deductable advertising expense (at the retail value of the stones!) anyhow.McDuffies wrote:Rkolter has too much money. now I have to do this... not because I like space or anything, but because I love gemstones. It was a passion of my grandfather's that he shared with me, and when he passed away, he left me his gemstone cutting/buffing/cab equipment and 2 metric tons of rocks and gems.
So.... I will go home tonight and ponder a picture and sketch out ideas. I'll probably do it in Charcoal.

A dyson sphere is supposed to be an entire sphere such that each point on the inside of the sphere is within the habitable zone of the star in the center of the sphere.
It would be cool, if drawn well. A dark sphere 180 million miles in diameter, possibly illuminated by a distant sun, blotting out stars behind it.

this is part of the comic, but it kinda fits.
a derelict in a swirly pretty homeworld stylee nebula/dustcloud thing.
unfortunatley it kinda looks like its underwater
btw - little critique - does the hull kinda look like its made of bone? its meant to be made of bone.
