Women with thighs that would cause real women to freak. And the fact that most of his characters are a little tense or severely constipated. He just happened to hit at the right time, too bad someone didn't hit him at the right time.
Visual aids:

Jim Lee in the nineties (faaaaaaaaaaace)

Silvestri (horizontal ribcage)

I like this one for Silvestri too: http://www.thecomicfanatic.com/new%20im ... 00pre2.jpg
Every woman has the same face, except storm because Xavier got her girlface by accident. whatta pout!

I really hate these 90-degree-shift-from-hips-to-ribs poses artists use with women. just looks painful!!

worse, Silvestri is STILL using this pose.
ok, for Mystique it may be appropriate, but Kitty should never be drawn doing this!!

y'know, Leifeld just exaggerated this pose so now everyone can clearly see the disturbing unsexiness. his art overall can be interpreted as an ironic statement on the "gritty" style in a lot of the industry where basic anatomy is similarly ignored, just not to the extremes Liefled goes to... though he never meant it that way.

...unless Leifeld is a rather impressive performance artist. I have the same theory about Ann Coulter.

edit: anyone else dislike Joe Quesada's art?

Hah, indeed. He should stick to editing-in-chief. Seems he pretty good at that.

I used to think that Greg Land was such a good artist too, and then when I learned that he traced a lot of his work, I just lost a lot of respect for him and the people that hire him, because they had to have known as well. That job could have went to someone who deserved it more.

His earlier stuff doesn't look traced though. Y/N?

His earlier stuff isn't traced, correct, though that girl does look needlessly model-ly. Dunno when he started tracing, but there's some talent in his earlier stuff.. shame he's squandering it.

Issue 22 of Sojourn, a mere 16 issues after the posted one, is the most cited "Land is a hack!" example that I've seen. I believe it's the cover that started the discussion rolling.

I just love that place where they compare two covers with two completely different characters traced from the same source.
If I fell as low as tracing, I'd at least make sure to have large enough collection to never get caught. But I guess the prime reason why someone would make a career that way is the conviction that he'll never get caught.
Or that if he does get caught, nothing will happen anyways. And it didn't. It's quite depressing reading people actually defending him with some stupid reasoning. I guess some people do think that all females should look luke porn stars in the middle of the "action".

Even I, when I engage in my misguided attempts at drawn art...will copy and paste faces onto sick figure bodies before succumbing to tracing. To this tracer, I say "FOR SHAME!!" and wag my finger whilst shaking my head.

She has a stump leg. I know it's supposed to be bent, but it looks like a stump.

I realize the discussion has moved on, but with my new internets access I just saw this and feel the need to post: CONAN RULES. I would totally hang Conan's sword on my wall, and possibly brag about it to people if I was okay with them knowing I'm a total geek (and also a slut when it comes to muscly half-naked barbarians).

But... I would never say anything like he did in that quote. It doesn't make sense. And not in a funny way, in a "did you get dropped on your head when you were a baby" way.

kay finished now.

You know, someone actually did a photoshop once of the Cap image to show how you could actually fix it a bit. Not perfect, but overall minor modifications included moving the head down a bit to the right, extending the arm a little, and smoothing out the back. Sure, it wasn't good, but it actually made th art a lot more passable. I wonder if the corrected pic still exists out there...

I didn't mind the quote. I actually thought it was kinda clever, in a political punditry sort of way. Anyway, I'm with you on the sword thing. I'd totally be proud to have that sword on my wall, if only because it's a pretty cool sword, and it's from one of my all-time favorite movies. Hell, I still brag about the time I actually got to play with the prop sword for the Green Destiny from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Although, I do have to say that I'm not a slut for muscly half-naked barbarians, unless, of course, they're lady barbarians.

I think the most disturbing thing on that page was Liefeld's admission to wanting to vote for the President with the most muscles...

Yeah, that part about "it'll be the president's sword once he fixes the rules" is the part that I would never say and makes me worry.
