Uh...no it wasn't.
Actually, I was wondering that too. I don't remember the last comic being a repeat of another one.

Someone doesn't have all the Calvin and Hobbes books then - That comic was previously released at least in book format - if all my humor books weren't still packed away I could dig out the source.
I had just re-read all the books what with the impending end of the comic; I had really liked that particular strip and remembered it when it showed up as the last strip for the comic.
There was a little furor about it at the time...

Things are looking pretty good so far, but unfortunately I have a really busy weekend coming up (it's Canadian thanksgiving and I have an assignment for one of my classes), so I may not be able to put these up until mid-next week or even next weekend.
Thanks to everyone for helping, though.

Hm, I'm gonna ask my sister, she just bought integral collection.

I've got that collection too, plus the original books, minus the Sunday comic collections. If it did pop up before the last comic, it must have been in the Sunday collection, because I'd never seen it before then. I'm gonna have to see some proof of this, because I can't find any evidence of this online or in the books I have.

It'd make sense if it was in the Sunday collection, since it was a colored, sunday-size strip.
I'm really not making this up. I'll have to see if I can find that book. Beth'll be pissed that I'm rooting through book boxes that we don't have a place to put. I'll blame you Col.

Am... am I gonna get... owl'd?
One of us is.
If I've gone loopy and this is some kind of sleep deprived or drug induced false memory, then I will. If I'm right, then you will... eventually.

Waterson used a very similar theme for two slightly different comics. One of these appeared as an extra bit* in a Calvin and Hobbes collection, right on the last page I think. The other one was the final strip in newspapers.
In other words, you're both wrong. You will be savagely owl'd when you least expect it.
* Waterson said that he really disliked the way publishers released the collections, with most but not all of the strips appearing in the smaller collections and then a different range of most but not all appearing in the larger collections, and then finally everything being printed in the complete editions. But then, Waterson disliked pretty much everything about the business end of comics.

It's been said before, and I'll say it again, most of the credit for HNTRAC must go to Terotrous, he pretty much took ownership of the whole thing. For me, HNTRAC was really just another one of my ideas that somehow took a life of their own and went beyond my control. As usual.
I did love that thread that started it though...
Hm, the kind of comic ending I hate: being left hanging at the climax of the story with no explanation. I think I'll have my contribution a mind-wracking cliffhanger, and a date at the bottom that indicates that it hasn't been updated for years. (last comic in the year 2000 or something)
... Actually I think the above is in danger of happening to me.

I just quickly thumbed through the original collections (minus the Sunday ones), checking the last page of each one, and you're right, there's a "The End" illustration for each collection. The only one that has an illustration of them riding off on the sled in a similar manner as the last comic is in the last book right after the last comic, so if you're thinking of that, YOU'RE WRONG! It wasn't a separate incident from the last comic. Or it's somewhere else, I dunno. I need to look through the big fat box set still. Gotta finish my own comic first.
When your work-ethic gets in the way of reading the Calvin and Hobbes collection, it's time to re-evaluate your life. Finishing work before reading cartoons... You'll never get anywhere with that attitude.

I'm gonna start putting these up soon, if anyone has any more, they can either post them here or submit through the site in the usual way.

Was the wording similar as well? It popped to me immediately as a reprint, but if he used a similar sledding scene and page layout, and different wording, that might well have confused me.
