I mean, they still rock.
The lead singer is gay, the rest aren't. And they do rock. Rock the block.

I saw a police style hat at the costume shop the other day... I'm tempted to go back and buy it.

It would be more ironic - and therefore funnier - if you went back and stole it.

Something still somewhat on-topicish (sorry): I bought the first volume DVD of an anime called Elfen Lied. The first episode starts off with this girl escaping a high security military complex. Along the way she kills a whole lot of people with telekenisis in really guesome ways. It has got to be one of the goriest things I've seen. I checked out the Amazon page for that DVD later, and reading the reviews there was someone who was obviously just a kid who saw that and was really disturbed by it, to the extent of having problems sleeping. This in itself I thought was mildly amusing, but then the question arrises, what the hell is wrong with his parents? The picture on the cover itself has blood, and the box states that it is rated Mature for sex, violence and language.

Anyways, just though that was sort of interesting.

You know, there's millions of dollars being spent trying to teach kids the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and sex.

Why aren't there any ad campains targeting parents to learn that NOT ALL ANIMATION IS FOR KIDS, and NOT ALL VIDEO GAMES ARE FOR KIDS. We should seriously start a program. Hand out T-Shirts, offer classes, run TV commericals. It's a serious problem.

I was wondering if that was any good. It's gotten some good reviews, but you can never tell anything from anime reviews.

Yes, this question has come up in both anime and video games. A lot of parents have the preconception that anything animated/video game related are automatically for children...an image that Disney purposfully perpetuated in its early years...and thus they just assume it's ok. Others just don't care. But then the animation/video game industry takes the heat for it. There's a looot of demonizing going on, despite the rating system. Now, true it's easier to get anime/video games that are mature than it is to, say, sneak into an R rated movie...but I probably wouldn't say it's easier than renting an R rated movie. Yet there isn't nearly as much of a burhaha over that. Kind of strange. My personal guess is because there aren't the same kind of assumptions about all movies as there is about all anime or all video games. I remember a gaming place in Iowa City that had a "Video Games 101" presentation geared towards educating parents. It's a brilliant idea, but I wonder how many parents would actually think to go to it?

But yes, I was disturbed when I read a 4th grader's essay about how he played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

His parents might not have bought it for him. People downloading and burning DVDs isn't totally unheard of. However it's probably the case that his parents just bought it for him without really looking at what it is. I highly doubt my parents screened everything they ever bought for me.

On the topic of being disturbed by adult-rated games and or animes, I played through the H-RPG Cobra Mission with a friend back in grade 5. I don't recall being scarred by it, but we thought the graphic sex scenes were gross.

I also played the original GTA wayyy before being of the correct age for it, but it's effectively G-rated compared to the new GTAs.

Parents just don't want to take responisibility for their kids in general, and it would seem they'd prefer to let the little beasties run wild, or take them on to talk shows and reality TV apparently hoping that television, the baby sitter that raised them, will raise their kids for them in a more interactive way...

I'm currently very fond of the Hitsuji no Uta OVAs, to the point where I'm thinking of eventually buying the manga.

Favorites for Anime, though, are Evangelion, Ai Yori Aoshi, Excel Saga, Ranma 1/2, all of Tenchi that I've seen, Petopeto-san, Futakoi Alternative. and several others that I can't name.

For manga, I'm currently buying Ai Yori Aoshi.

I think it's kind of interesting that out of what I just listed, they all fall under romantic comedy/drama rather well, except for Excel Saga, the "romantic" bit of that isn't really towards the end, and the drama in Petopeto-san is minimal (so far) but still...
Someday, someday I'll finish Confabulation. That day is not today, however.

I think anyone who wants to understand Evangelion should see it in it's entirety (including both movies, and preferably with the Director's Cuts) at least thrice.

I've seen the series, and the movie, and I will say that it had a decent premise only to go completely batshit insane both visually and story-wise. Then they started naming arbitrary people and objects after biblical characters. Throw some Kabbalah in there and you got madness.

I'll agree the end kinda fell apart, but more or less the animation style was very well done, and it had some really nice directing. The story could have been clearer and just overall better, but visually, it was a nice piece of work.

My favorite part about the name bit is people try to claim the religious symbols mean that they were trying to push some religious agenda forward, when everyone who worked on the show, including Hideaki Anno, admit they used them to both lord their intelligence over people (at least in Anno's case) and that it was used because in Japan it seems mysetrious and cool.

But the story is batshit insane from the getgo anyway.

That's because sega pulled money out from under them towards the end. That's a decent part of why the movies and the director's cuts were made... that and the death threats Anno received, and Gainax's need to milk their one really big hit for every penny it's worth...

I like Naruto. It's almost like Harry Potter, but with ninjas. You can make anything cooler by adding ninjas.

I now rely on my local anime club to supply me with anime. I don't think I have a favorite anymore . . .

I love anime club because there's always at least one weird, dreamy-like semi-nonsensical show, usually based on a dating game of one kind or another. That, and the club provides awesome color commentary.
