What movies have you seen recently?

I watched "Milky Way". It's not one of Bunuel's best films, but that's ok, I like it enough and those less known films are freakin' hard to find.
I probably would have liked the film more if I was a history buff and knew all about heretic movements through history. This way, I could only guess what half of the film was about.

I don't care much for superhero movies in general, although a handful of them are actually pretty good.

I like only those that, in one way or another, embrace campiness of the concept. The idea of taking a guy who dresses up in costume and runs around after criminals, and putting him in a realistic, gritty and morally ambigious enviroment - somehow never really works for me.
I wonder though, if it's ever occured to anyone that if Batman really was a neurotic and nutcase that post-Miller interpretations make him out to be, he wouldn't remember his parent's murder because he would have repressed it.

Oh, and I saw Jumper. The whole movie is just milking the same camera trick over and over without really having any sort of plot. Possibly has some value as camp, I guess. What's with Samuel L. Jackson being in these sort of films, though? I thought he used to be, like, a legitimate actor.

i saw jumper recently too, it was pretty weak.

Never seen Batman Forever, then?

No, I've been getting around to see it since forever, Nolan is a director who shows some potential after all ("Prestige" was fine). But if they went there, I raise my hat to them.
You can't blame me for not being very interested, I've seen the same story retold a dozen of times in movies, series and comics, and I'm kinda sick of being fed with the same scene of his parents being murdered and everything else. I thought the story was pretentious and overblown to start with, and Miller did all he could to make some sence out of it, and he still failed in my opinion. I thought it suited Cane's campy, detached style somewhat, but Miller's dramatic style, hmmm?
If I have to choose between being told the same Batman story again in a different package and the story about history of Christian herecy through the ages - I don't think you can blame me for choosing the second.

Wrong Batman. Noland did Batman Begins, Forever was Joel Schumacher.......

But Forever was your campy, over the top nonsense, but involved Wayne's repressed memory. It wasn't really all that good.

I feel that if you're doing superheroes, you have to examine the weirdness of it. Which means embracing the campiness or investigating the psychology of superheroes. I think Begins does a good job of showing the process of going from rich playboy to costumed vigilante. It of course is still absurd, but it's interesting to see, and the narrative is just strong suspense storytelling.

On the other hand in Batman and Robin Bruce seemed to be over his parents. However instead he flashbacked about Alfred and the movie was terrible but it was something. (I mean Alfred dying was an event that would happen soon, so it's not angsty for Bruce to be upset over it.)

"A Prairie Home Companion": I love the radio show, and I enjoyed the skits in the movie... but I was disappointed by the overall plot and especially by the ending.

Man, i got all hyped up over the visuals in the Phantom menace after reading a blog post which was talking about all the work that went into it and how its just very very bad writing at play. It was from a guy who was watching a Fan edit version of the film, so I tthought I'd try that out.

Its got some redubbed alien voices here and there, cuts out lots of the spoken exposition, loses much of Jar Jar and Anakin's dialogue and makes the podrace very very long. Other thing I really noticed was the loss of the "bigger fish" scene. Takes them twenty minutes to get to tatooine in this version, and it rolls along incredibly fast. Not finished it yet, but actually enjoying it, especially now I'm looking out for the details mentioned in the blog i read.

I fiiiiiiiinally saw "Airplane!" Well, most of it. It was fun.

Snakes on a Plane was totally begging to be compared to Airplane!. The latterformer was probably better because it didn't go All Out like SoaP did. I might change my mind come tomorrow, though. >_>;
