To confirm earlier statements: Yes, I knew it was Kisai. I wanted to wait for Kisai to confess. I have done nothing but sit on my butt and play Second Life while Kisai was going BOFH (which in measured amounts is a good thing).
Now onto ranks and post counts. I've been reading through this, and here is what *I* propose:
Posts in Off Topic and Forum Games don't count. As Kisai has mentioned, Off topic is getting unregulated. Forum Games are for fun, and fun only -- pushing up your post count like that means you're not making good quality posts. So make them not count.
Make the current President of GD have control over the titles. I actually have presidence here: FurryMuck, a text MU*, once a year runs a "Mayor of Furrymuck" election. Elected members have the power to change what a penny is described as. Some examples are "red tailed wirlybirds" and "Tugrik leftovers." As Mr. Bob is the current President of GD, he has this power right now. Which gets me to my next point...
Hold elections every year. Let someone else get in there. Also insitude a two year term limit (with unlimited terms after a year break).

I disagree with the idea of making off topic posts not count simply because it is "getting unregulated". We do not stop postwhores here, but we do have actual real conversations in this forum, and many of them are well thought out, or at the very least, interesting and participated in by many.
I think the other ideas are pretty good.

There are a good number of worthwhile conversations that don't fit into OT, just as there are also a lot of BS conversations in GD. The Games thing not counting makes sense, but not counting OT seems dismissive to things that may be important to us but not comic related.

Like this one? No, that wasn't sarcasm.
If you start turning Off Topic posts off completely, it'd only landslide from there. Then it'd be Keenime and other Hosted Communities. Then it'd be, what, GD, because there's some postwhoring there, too?
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."
I don't feel we've been given enough of a reason for this if any.
things that came to mind were the postwhoring in GD that we're sop often told off about (in which case maybe turning that section's posts off would be a better option)
the other is that if GD posts count, it supposedly shows people making relevent posts. although if people are still just going to postwhore there then it's not gonna make any difference
Now is it either of these or does it make more sense?
As I saw it there was nothing wrong with the way things worked before. people were content with the indentity of our forum and now we're all divided over trivial nonsensical issues.

I have to agree with rkolter here. Both Off Topic and General Discussions are going to have both excellent and pointless threads. You can't necessarily discount one because it doesn't deal exclusively with webcomicking. A big part of these forums and the webcomic community in general is the community and the relationships people from completely different backgrounds and parts of the world form because they all have this forum and webcomics in common.
Both Off Topic and General Discussion facilitate those relationships and the growth as a community.

Specially with Claude's last paragraph. We're fixing what isn't broken and in the process, making even more unnecessary drama (as if we don't have enough of it).

Which brings us back to the question we started with about having post counts at all.

I add my voice to the agree-als, and I really really think everything should just be UNDONE. now we have what... THREE threads in one forum about this combined with a variety of people who are unhappy for various reasons.
As for the REST of what kelly said, that basically means... what do you know... changing it back to the way it was before, only with elections every year. - which could be a lot of fun, and an interesting way to create a forum activity.

I am hoping that the final decision on postcounts, for or against, will be based on the new vote thread, and that people who have an opinion on the matter, for or against, will vote in that thread so we can get a clear picture of how the majority who care about the issue, feel.

Keep OT posts as they are. There's a lot of serious discussion that goes on in here, be it comic-related or no compared to Forum Games where you know that nothing serious happens there.
Plus I can understand saying "Forum Games, you are not important so your posts don't count", but saying OT isn't important or doesn't count for anything, too?

I've always thought OT was the MOST important of the boards. Where else are we supposed to post? GD? Help Center?
What Lies Beyond - A Psychological Fantasy Novel
Stuff that updates sometimes:
I also did phbites.comicgenesis.com and hntrac.comicgenesis.com way back when.
There are two profiles with the default Comic Genesis theme now. One is the old ComicGenesis, the other is the new ComicGenesis_stripped.
If you want to see post counts and all ranks, basically everything as it used to be, select ComicGenesis.
If you do not want to see post counts and only want to see the mod/admin ranks, select ComicGenesis_stripped.
Forum Games is being set up with a point system, which is really just a modified post system. Forum Games mods can set up Games-only ranks dependent upon this point number. I believe Kisai is also putting in a reset feature for the points so Games can have contests like "first one to X points" or "who can get the highest before they're reset" or something.
I will still knock you into outerspace if you postwhore or make an obvious commotion about your post count in GD. Especially after these past few days, I am sick of hearing about post counts.

I think that's a pretty good compromise, in that people may be less noisy about postiness if they know that half of us won't be looking at their postcounts. Now, let us put this nastiness behind us! :3
